I'm sure it's lovely said in the right way or accent but my english ears can't get beyond it being shouted at football matches as in "man on!" When a player is about to tackle from behind.

I think it's beautiful and comments like sounds as if you mean 'man on' are just daft, people have pretty a pretty cosmopolitan grasp of names these days in my experience.

I am in welsh-speaking Wales too and know some adult Manons as well as little ones....in fact my lovely midwife is one

I think it is also getting more popular in Wales, I know a couple of adult Manons but four little ones, only one older than mine, the rest all smaller. But it may also be where we live, as this is a staunchly Welsh-speaking part of Wales.

My youngest is called Manon - she was born in France and my husband is Welsh. Yes, it is pronounced differently in English and French. We have yet to meet many other British Manon's but there are loads here in France, every school class has at least 2 or 3.

Obviously a massive difference in pronunciation if said with a French account or a British accent.

Makes it sound like it's a different name I'd imagine.

The French name doesn't sound the final N, it is closer to Man-o. The Welsh name is pronounced Ma-non. With slight emphasis on the a. Non is also a stand alone name in Wales. I love my little Manon and obv I like the name, but I do sometimes wish I had chosen differently. My other dd also has a short and simple name that somehow constantly gets mispronounced and mis-spelled and so I am rather weary of it now!

DH's niece is called Manon. She's in her early 20s, beautiful and smart, with a hunky boyfriend.

She is neither French nor Welsh.

well it's good enough for Damien Lewis and Helen McCrory!
It's a pretty name and most 80s kids will make he connection with Manon des Sources

I really like it but would never use it because it makes me think of The Craft (Manon is the devil-like spirit they try to evoke). I think one of the Chili Peppers had a DD with that name though.

How about Marin? It's prettier imo but is very similar.
