Is it too much?

We are having a girl and DH really likes the name Noble.

We have two Middle names picked out Rachael Mary after my best friend and granny.
Noble Rachael Mary
What do you think? Is it too much? We will have both of our last names on her birth certificate but she will go by his last name mostly, not both.

Hmm, as for being on trend, fine - but that doesn't change the fact that it's a pretty ugly word. I'd much prefer Saint!

Look at 'Noble' for too long and you start seeing it as 'Nob-lee'. Just is a bit of a weird ugly looking word.

Nobbins, nobby, nibble, Norbert, nobody.

Not a nice feel to it at all.

Oh OP it's awful. Don't do it. Not even funny.

And everyone will think it's some sort of weird title, like the Honourable Rachael Mary Blahington-Blah, and she will have the most horrid time endlessly having to explain.

And, short forms Nob or Lee. Lovely.

I personally feel giving a child 5 names is a lot and a real pain when you are older and filling paperwork especially when traveling.

As for Nobel as a name I'm not keen and the shortenings nicknames are not that great.

Other two names are lovely and the thought behind them is nice too.

We have a double barrelled surname so decided just to give out DS one name but that is just personal choice (plus we couldn't agree on a middle name)

If you've read what the baby naming trends are supposed to be for 2015 are, then Noble is listed by a number of baby name websites.

'Defining' names of this nature might not be your cup of tea, but they are apparently bang on trend. You may find your children are the classmates of Nobles and Saints amongst others.

I don't think it will be as unusual as people think.

Do I think its too much? Possibly. And I do think its more of a boys, rather than girls name.

It's a lot to live up to!! I can imagine someone saying to her after introductions "and ARE you?!" (Noble?) Remember Cher's daughter Chastity and what happened there!!! Smile

Noble is awful, sorry. And I love Rachel but not when spelt "Rachael"....it looks inelegant and clumsy. Plus 3 names and a double barrelled surname is just way to much. Imagine the poor girl having to fill out forms in later life!

Noble is beyond awful and your DH doesn't even have the excuse of making such a weird choice because of pregnancy hormones.

I'd never normally recommend Patricia (it'll be back in 20yrs) but here goes. I much prefer Patricia to noble.

Surnames: I think you should have 3 middle names (yes3!)and one of them be your sur name so she has one official and unofficial surname. Your plan for 2 surnames but only using one in daily life will work for some forms but not all and we all hate it when forms / documents don't match! Lifetime of pain.

DD's middle names are Rachel Jane, after family members - I think they're good, solid middle names. And no problem putting in your surname as another middle name too. It's not often you use them, after all, so most of the time she will be known as just "Noble Smith", not "Not Rachael Mary Jones Smith."

However I agree with PPs that Noble is a very... unusual name.

(doorbellringer, DD's full name is 4 names and 10 syllables long, it's not hard for them to learn it! Smile)

Friend has 'Noble' as surname and unfortunately has always been known as 'Nobby'

Noble sounds more like a title than a name. The rest of it sounds fine.

Honor, as suggested above, is a nice name, of Latin origin. Also from Latin, Patricia means noble. It's illogical that a Latin version of a word is perfectly OK as a name, while the English equivalent raises eyebrows, but I think that's the current situation.

As far as I knew Rachael with the extra a IS the "correct" spelling. That's how I'd spell it anyway. Incidentally it's how my phone wants me to spell it too.

Your dh choice? He doesn't even have the excuse of hormones. I came up with some right corkers whilst pregnant but none as extreme as noble!

"Rachael" is a legitimate spelling variation of "Rachel".

I wouldn't but I would prefer Noble than Rachel as a first name.

I would prefer another virtue name over Noble though.
