Confessions - names you love but will never use

Just as title really. I have a theory that everyone has a baby name that they love but will never/ have never got to use. Mine is Silas, always adored it but DH (and almost everyone else in rl) hates it. My mum's is Toby, she's tried to get us to use it but we haven't obliged. Would anyone else care to share?

Jezebel and Lilith. I think they're beautiful, but Lilith means a female demon, apparently, and Jezebel was a Scarlet Woman in the Bible I am told - and these are the associations most people have with these names, unfortunately.

It needs someone brave to reclaim them and then people wouldn't have those associations any more, I suppose, but I was not that person!

Boy - Sasha or Valentine
Girl - April or Zoe

No chance of any more DC for us - We have named the cats with two of the above instead!

I have many, I had long name lists until my kids were born and now keep them at behindthename.com for writing and video name characters (names are so my thing that my DP and some friends let me name their characters...). Top ones off the top of my head that I love but will never use: Zosime, Winifred, Adalet, Olivine and Adwin.

YY to Hermione, soundsystem. I've loved that name since I was a teenager, but can't bring myself to use a famous literary name.
I also quite like Bella, as a nn, which I also can't use for obvious reasons. Plus, all of the names that it's a nn for are either too popular or I don't like them.

I'm going to have a field day naming pets one day... Grin

Clementine
Clara
Clover

Bartholomew (loved this before the Simpsons came along..)
Dexter

We've had 4 kids, these have been on my list every time and DH has refused to consider them. None of our DDs have ended up with a name beginning with 'C' which is surprising when you look at my loved but lost list.

I love Matilda, Adelaide and Byron, but DP is Aussie and I think it would be overkill.

Jago and Arlo are my loves that DP just shakes his head at.

ozymandiusking · 19/01/2015 21:42

Cecelia
Octavia

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 19/01/2015 21:41

Just read through and my sons name has been mentioned twice... dexter rocks!

RaspberryBeret34 · 19/01/2015 21:38

Coralie and Liberty.

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 19/01/2015 21:32

I don't have any names that I would never use... More that DP has or would veto.

Katarzyna- I think it's a beautiful name for a girl, I think if I had my ultimate girl name choice, this would be it... Despite there being no polish heritage! Hmm maybe I could change my name by deed poll?

Amir- love it, love it's meaning, DP vetoed it as 'I know an Amir and he's a right '

Hector- again, I love it, DP just absolutely hates it

Atlas- was actually a front runner for our DC due in April, until DP stupidly asked his mates opinions (even though he personally loved the name) and allowed them to ruin it for him, thus, us not being able to call a boy Atlas.

spamanderson · 19/01/2015 19:56

Darryl for a girl. I bloomin love it but it just wouldn't work :(

Shhhhhhhh · 19/01/2015 19:34

Not that I don't love most of these names too, I even love my own name now... but I remember hating it and the preconceptions that came with the name when I was a teenager. Funny thing is, I actually "grew" into my name, became the type of person you might expect to have that name, and I sometimes wonder whether my name "made" me.

Shhhhhhhh · 19/01/2015 19:30

LOL both my name and my OH's name are on these lists, which is partly why DS has a very classic, simple, timeless name...

SunnyBaudelaire · 19/01/2015 19:07

Dimitri
Adonis
Tallulah
Antigone
Artemis

barmybunting · 19/01/2015 19:05

Clara.

I have loved it since I was a child. DH hates it.

Acacia. I can't bring myself to suggest it, but it sounds beautiful even if it does mean thorny tree!
