The 'Jen' bit is maybe a bit similar to Jemima, the overall Genevieve long and complex like Clementine, and it fits Rose as a middle name - could it work for you both?

I know one who is Vivi for short, I think it's a lovely and very strong name.

Holly Rose?

I don't understand the conundrum because Jemima Clementine or Mimi Clementine seems fine to me maybe only because I think Clementine is horrible in all circumstances.

As far as I'm aware, Jemima in Hebrew literally means 'warm', and the 'dove' meaning is (somehow?) derived from that and a bit more tenuous. Or suggest to your husband that the Biblical Jemima (daughter of moany Job) had two sisters, Keziah (which I quite like) and the wondrously odd Keren-Happuch. Tell him if he wants Biblical, you'll give him Biblical.

Although my associations with Jemima are a Aunt Jemima and Jemima Puddle-duck.

I was about to comment on the racist connotations of Jemima as well. If you have family in the US or go there a lot I would avoid it for that reason. Google Aunt Jemima - if you really don't like it I'm sure you'll find enough to put your husband off. Also, Jemima strikes me as a posh girl, horsey name. It is pretty though.

Gut reaction: much prefer Jemima. Holly is really dull. It's only with the Clementine against it that it sounds more interesting... but we never use middle names day to day.

Meanings: They BOTH have meaning, as Rhubarb has pointed out... and actually, Jemima has very negative connotations in the USA.

I'd go for Jemima Rose, sorry OP. Nicer and rarer first name, plus the middle name has extra special meaning.

Good point about the Aunt Jemima links in America Mrsindecision. Previous MN threads have suggested that it's a name that is avoided in the US due to its racial connotations. It would put me off using it too.

If your husband is interested in "meaning", then he might like to be aware that the name Jemima caries a considerable amount of racial negativity in North America, so certainly isn't a "take you anyway" name as mentioned in an earlier post IMO. Whilst I do think it's a lovely name, that would personally be enough to put me off using it.
I would add that I certainly don't agree that the name Holly would hold anyone back, what an odd suggestion. It's a perfectly normal name and FWIW, I happen to know a couple of adult Hollys who hold professional positions if that really matters!?

But why? A name doesn't really say anything about a person except that their parents liked that name.

I'm a Holly and I have always loved it, always had lots of compliments and never had an issue with people doubting my professionalism due to my name - I work with sensible people!

Jemima is pretty, too, although obviously I am biased towards Holly :)

I disagree that babies do/do not look like a name. Not one of mine was eventually called the name we thought we were going to use prior to birth. Every single time their name was chosen to suit them after their birth.

I say you should wait till after she is born and then decide. I also think if you can't decide on Holly or Jemima then you should go for a 3rd option that you can both agree on.

Dh and I had discussed a name, my suggestion but wasn't sure I was brave enough. Was still in hospital when dh bounced in all pleased because the registrar had visited the hospital so he had gone ahead and registered name. Was pleased actually as was fed up with agonising - name was clementine it's beautiful and suits dd2 perfectly. Always the only one in the class

I much prefer Jemma Rose. I think Holly Clementine is a big babyish. You can be anything with a name like jemima rose, as the name doesn't define you. IMO.

I am willing to bet your daughter will be called something completely different. Wait until you go completely irrational in the last 10 days or so and want to call her Sprout (it will get your own back). And then of course he may go all soppy once you've had her and want to name her after you and his mother ... And then you will both take one look and say, 'oh, she doesn't look like a Holly/ Jemima/ Sprout' and go back to the drawing board. So don't worry too much. I am also confident you will win whatever!
