Etienne....for a girl?

Is this a massive no no? I know it's 'Stephen' in French, we are not french and live in the UK but we both love this name and prefer for a girl. Would you assume this was a boy if you heard it? She would go by Etti as a nickname and be called that the majority of the time but I think that the full version is lovely.

I know a little girl called Elliotte and another called Dylan and no one seems too fussed but wondered what people think?

It wont be the OP that is saddled with a mans name though will it, its her daughter who will have to put up with it

Sorry but etienne would sound like you were a bit uneducated and had no idea it was a boys name rather than a cute boys name for a girl.

Thanks for all the thoughts! We are atoring Etienne for future use in case we ever have a boy...thankfully we have now come up with a few nice girl options which we both like so this thread was worth the effort.

It's a shame, but probably wise.

However, if I was in the uk I wouldn't saddle a boy with Etienne.

What abour Emmilene? Like Emmilene Pankhurst? Brilliant name for a girl. Not dissimilar in sound to Etienne.
