Ottie or Pixie?

I don't like either, sorry. Aitches are regularly dropped around where I live and I'd pity a child named Ottie in early secondary school because if she was a stunner she'd be laughed at and if she wasn't she'd be laughed at even more. Pixie I think is cute up until about age four but what happens if your child when older is anything but cute? It doesn't really fit a tall or broad teenager tbh.

Ottie is awful. Otter? Hottie? Potty? I just don't get it. Lottie is better.

Pixie is cutesy and silly.

Those are my brutally honest opinions, but if I had to choose at gunpoint, I'd go for Pixie.

Really surprised as a teacher you would go for these names, my Mum is a teacher and cannot stand names like these - suppose that's where my like for the more traditional comes from. Very sorry, OP, but I think you are mad to consider the name Pixie.

Here is a list of sayings I like to consider a name being used in. For convenience sake, I'm imagining your surname (or your DD's future surname) as Smith. Please substitute your real family name as you read these.

"All rise for Her Honour, Pixie Smith."
"The Prime Minister, Pixie Smith."
"Your psychiatrist, Dr. Pixie Smith, will see you soon."

And then I like to imagine the name with titles:

Princess Pixie, Lady Pixie etc.

And then I like to imagine the name on three different adults:

A normal weight person.
A very thin person.
A very fat person.

And then I like to imagine the name being called at a park with a whole bunch of children and dogs, and envision whether more children or pets will come running.

And I'm very sorry, OP, this is quite harsh but I think Pixie is an absolutely dreadful name. It's a nice nickname though, and I think it's very cute for a child.

IMO, Ottie is nicer as a name but still not quite right? Does your DH have any suggestions.

Pixie is not a name (lotte is called that by family beause she was premature and tiny), ottie is just awful!

Too cutesy and neither of them are actually nice names. Ottie is particularly awkward and silly. Have you considered Balonz.

I agree that there are a lot more unusual names out there now and a tolerance for that too. However I think that there is a difference between unusual and silly. your choices are falling into the later.

Pixie would be so funny if DD ended up about 10st overweight!!

My Dd is a Lottie, but I actually prefer Pixie over Ottie. I'd love a Dp who would let me use Pixie!! Go for it

I still only like the boys' name Samuel. Which is unfortunate as I have two boys. My second son is Leo and it's never really grabbed me, but it is definitely his name now. It was better than anything my insane dp fancied. Oh, I did like Raphael. Or Caspar. Both vetoed. And I can never have a Raphael now, even if we did have miraculous baby number three, as everyone would think I loved Ninja Turtles, what with Leo.

But I really really think you should think carefully about Pixie. If you love it, go ahead, but Ottie, whilst unusual, is less associated in the mind with anything. Pixies are, if you see what I mean.

Pixie is cool. I have never heard the name Ottie before, though suspect it could be a grower!

As a fellow teacher, you are unlikely to come across a lot of little monsters with either of those names, which can only be a blessing. Nothing worse than a horror ruining your baby's name! X

Are you and your husband slightly built? If there's any genetic chance of your daughter being above average size, I don't think Pixie would work.

I think Pixie is craziness, tbh, but people do just accept names once they are given. There is a little girl at the school I work at whose name is Frozan (not British parents) and none of the kids bat an eyelid despite the film "Frozen" or even the word as they're just used to it.

In my opinion, anyone who doesn't call their daughter Francesca is unreasonable though as I'm still not over the fact I will almost definitely never have a daughter and will not get to use it

A pixie is a little elf thing, why name your child after that?

Ottie will just get called botty/ spotty etc.

Ottoiline is nice. Ottilia sounds a bit too much like Attila (the Hun) to me.

Ottoline and Ottilia got mentioned earlier, could you talk your DH into one of those?

Ottie makes me think of otter, like doggie for dog.

Pixie is my childhood nickname - sweet for a little girl. But she isn't going to be a little girl for very long.

How about Dottie, short for Dorothea (or Theodora) or Odette?
