Thoughts on Tyburn?

My other half and I are massive London history fans and are thinking of Tyburn as a first name for our baby boy. It's one of the names of Londons original rivers and was also the original name for Oxford St called Tyburn Road.
Yes it does also have a reference to the gallows at Tyburn cross! But we're not put off by that. Pronounced tie - burn.
Short would be Ty.
Horrified? :) Our other current faves are Larkin, Efra or Sachin.

A quick google of Effra bring up lots of sewer connotataions though, and if you call him Larkin, well most people only know the, "They fuck you up" line. But I like your thinking OP, sure you'll come up with something fab.

Tyburn just says the gallows to me, not a nice association.

I know a young Sachin, that's a much nicer name IMO.

First thing i thought of was the Tyburn Jig, the name given to the people choking to death as they hanged.

Great name but too much of a gallows association. I wanted to name DS1 Tyler, after Wat Tyler, but DH was having none of it.

Fab you could create a whole new theme of names...brothers Newgate, Smithfield and Pentonville with their sister Holloway.

You'd have a gate, field, town and lane to go with your river....alternatively you could name a girl Bedlam...derived from St Mary of Bethlehem so nice and festive.

Efra is my joint favourite! Sounds like it might be slightly more acceptable to the average person :)
Sachin is actually after Sachin Tendulkar the cricketer.
Not heard of the name Tymon, will look it up.

Sorry I immediately associate it with Tyburn the execution site and not the river. I am also an historian. In respect of the others - I met a Sachin (pr. Satch in) recently who was lovely. Larkin sounds like larking about

God no. Tyburn is the most famous place for hanging people. Also, I'm pretty sure they used to hang, draw and quarter people there for treason too. Awful.

Most people think of the gallows when they hear Tyburn. A name that is so strongly associated with capital punishment might be unwanted by your child as they grow up.

It's the sight of hangings. Awful name for that reason- there's a monastery there where they still pray for the martyrs.

Tyburn Tree was where they hung highwaymen etc. in those days it was entertainment and a popular day out!
I'm not naming a baby I'm naming a man - he'll be a man longer than a wee infant.
