Thoughts on Tyburn?

My other half and I are massive London history fans and are thinking of Tyburn as a first name for our baby boy. It's one of the names of Londons original rivers and was also the original name for Oxford St called Tyburn Road.
Yes it does also have a reference to the gallows at Tyburn cross! But we're not put off by that. Pronounced tie - burn.
Short would be Ty.
Horrified? :) Our other current faves are Larkin, Efra or Sachin.

What will people think of his family of he sounds as though he's named after an execution location? They'll think your either gothic butters or just idiots who don't know what tyburn references. It's along the same lines as naming a baby adolf in my view.

I don't like the images it conjures up.
This is why I didn't name DS after a river that is special to me.
Spey doesn't have much of a ring to it.

Okay I knew it might be controversial but seems it's not a marmite name - most people hate it! This is why mumsnet is good for reality checks. As I dnt live in reality most of the time.

Loving Mutton Brook though. :)

Seriously do like Efra (which is also a proper name not just a river) though.

Tybalt is a cool replacement!

As well as Tymon (or Timon, as in the Shakespeare play), Tybalt/Tybbald would also give nn 'Ty'

As others have said, there are plenty of other London rivers - much better known, as well. What about Fleet (as in Fleet Street)? That has much more positive associations.

If you're a fan of the rivers of London books Tyburn is a woman's name, and Lady Ty(burn) is not a very nice person.
