Sonny for a boy?

I often call my ds Sonny Boy, but only in private now (he is 15) personally I think it would be a slightly embarrassing name for school, work etc. Plus I think that there are advantages in having a name with formal and informal forms, for example I have a 'family' name and a 'rest of my life' name, and my dd uses her formal name for school and the short form for friends/family. I can't see that a 'Sonny' gets much choice, so just for that I'd discount it.

Plus you can use it as a nickname for a boy regardless, so it's a bit of a wasted naming opportunity I think.

I know two boys called Sonny, both are lovely one 8 and one 10 so it isn't too unusual. It's not one I'd choose but I don't hate it.

I think it's an absurd name. I'd be terribly disapointed if, out of all the names in the world, I got given that one. What a short changer.

I think it's dreadful. However, you might well think the same about my DS's name (which is not Harry, James, Oscar, Finlay or William). Why worry about what strangers on the internet think?
