Boys Names...... Am I mad??

For years in my head I've had this boys name and always thought the first child I had if a boy I would call him this name. But now I am pregnant I am having a total wobble. Not sure if baby is a boy or girl, but any advice would be greatly received.

Could you give me your opinions on the following names (and any other suggestions you think I might like would be great received!) I have a really unusual name and I am undecided as to whether I should give my children unusual name or fairly popular name, as there are pros and cons to both.

My list VERY short list (hence my desperation for help!)

  • Edward (Nickname Teddy)
  • Noah
  • Caspar (New addition this week, maybe too friendly ghost?!)

Hmmm, well you have asked for opinions, but apologies in advance to anyone who maybe offended by mine!

Edward is very, very popular and - in my opinion - very, very dull. Teddy is very twee. Is it really what you would want a grown man to be called? I'd think it odd if I met a guy over the age of 6 who referred to himself as Teddy.

Noah. Not a bad name in itself but I know lots. Aged from 0-11, I think I know about 8. If popularity doesn't bother you then that's not an issue I guess.

Caspar is a lovely name. I only know one, who is an adult. Great name for a guy, but totally lovely for a wee boy too. Easily the nicest on your list, but really quite different from Edward & Noah.

Noah is the name I have always loved..... but I am also struggling to find girls names that go nicely with it if you get my meaning..... (planning in case I end up with a boy and girl, although this is my first!)

Other name I have always liked is Byron. Any comments on that one?? Yay or Nay??

I like all three names, prefer Eddie to Teddy as a nn for Edward. I think Noah is my favourite.

My view of Caspar is slightly skewed by having known a rather stand-offish cat by the name, but that's not terribly helpful to you...

I have to admit to liking Erasmus. I'm done with babies, so I won't get to use it. My DSis is expecting a baby in January and is stuck for a boys name - I've been trying to convince her that Erasmus is a totally cool name for months!

All names are fairly popular; I know several boys called each of the names on your list.

I love Teddy.

All are very nice names, and the friendly Ghost spells his name Casper, rahter than Caspar.

Well Edward and Noah are both obviously very popular, mainstream names. They are nice names, don't get me wrong, but they aren't 'am I mad' names so I assume you mean Caspar? I think it's fine. The friendly ghost isn't a big thing in the UK really, and similar names like Jasper are popular.

I LOVE Teddy. Would have been DD's name if she had been a boy. I love Noah but it is quite popular.

Not so keen on Caspar.

Any one of your names would be OK (based on your title, I was fully expecting you to say that you loved names like Erasmus, or Isambard, or Cuthbert).
