My boys' names short list - which do you prefer?

It's so much easier to think of names for a girl than it is a boy, I think, because there's so much more acceptable variety for girls. I found out at my 14 week scan that it's 90% certain we're having a boy though so now I'm trying to focus just on boys' names.

My husband is rather difficult to encourage in this area - he just glances at my list, guffaws, and walks away. Not helpful! But at least he's now vaguely saying he likes Otis, which is my current favourite, so there's hope yet!

Here's my list - which do you like most and which do you think are awful? In case it's of any use, our surname is Davey.

Austen
Archer (nn. Archie)
Arthur (nn. Artie)
Oscar
Felix (nn. Fox)
Jasper
Maxim (nn. Max)
Sawyer
Otis
Lochlan (nn. Lockie, Lox)

Drake (middle name)
Oates (middle name)
Arlo (middle name)
Frost (middle name)

My ideal name is Otis Fox Davey. Any First name combinations with the listed middle names that you like most?

Thanks! :)

Otis Fox Davey is unusual but I love it. It's your favourite- there's nothing wrong with it- go for it! Fox as a middle name sounds really cool.

Just remember, in the real world people don't actually use middle names very often so it's probably more important to think what it sounds like without it. Otis Davey sounds great.

I spent ages choosing my DS's middle name and I love it but it never gets used, kind of wish I'd saved it to use as a first name for potential DS2.

Archer Fox Davey-awesome!

Romeyroo · 26/12/2014 21:17

Otis Lachlan Davey, I think. Though would have gone with Lachlan as a first name, I like it,

doormouse04 · 26/12/2014 21:12

My boy is an oscar felix frederick, still love it.

SquirrelledAway · 26/12/2014 20:59

Oscar Drake Davey will give you the perfect initials.

CarriMarie · 26/12/2014 20:48

Archer Fox Davey sounds great to me.

Jasper, Lochlan and Sawyer are the ones I like from your list. Drake and Arlo as MN (Drake would also be a lovely first name.)

AskMeAnother · 26/12/2014 17:27

Otis Lachlan Davey would be the only combination that didn't have the people reading his CV rolling in the aisles.

Roseylee20 · 26/12/2014 17:22

I agree- had a whole list of girls names that could go on and on.. But never thought too much about them as I had an inkling from the start I was having a boy, we found out I was right! So, so far my list is very short too. From your list I like Max, as it's also my favourite so far x

TashaD80 · 26/12/2014 13:55

Thank you so much for all your responses - really helpful! Indeed, even my husband was interested enough to read them all ;)

So, with your help in mind, we're now settled on either Otis or Archer (nn. Archie) as a first name.

If you could give some more advice now on coming up with a middle name to go with each of these that would be amazing. Here's our short lists:

Otis Fox Davey
Otis Wolf Davey
Otis Lachlan Davey
Otis Drake Davey
Otis Arlo Davey
Otis Jasper Davey
Otis Maxim Davey
Otis Felix Davey
Otis Grey Davey

Archer Fox Davey
Archer Wolf Davey
Archer Arlo Davey
Archer Otis Davey
Archer Grey Davey
Archer Drake Davey
Archer Felix Davey

Arthur Davey has a lovely sound to it

wizzler · 20/12/2014 22:01

I like Archer Fox.
Just bear in mind that although you may use a particular NN.. it may not be your choice.
I dont like Austen, or Oates.

WowserBowser · 20/12/2014 21:23

Sorry - just realised Clara already said that!

WowserBowser · 20/12/2014 21:22

Arthur Davey is like Arthur Daley

BrowersBlues · 20/12/2014 20:36

Otis Davey or Arthur Davey - completely love the name Artie. There was an Irish musician called Arty McGlynn who was very talented. Loved the name Artie the first time I heard it.

AlfAlf · 20/12/2014 20:24

I actually know of siblings called Austin and Sawyer! They're American.

I prefer your more traditional first names: Otis, Felix, Oscar, Max, Jasper. I like Lachlan too, but would spell it as I have.
I'd steer well clear of Archer, because of the awful Jeffrey, and I agree with Clara about Arthur with your surname.

I love Fox as a middle name :)

WowserBowser · 20/12/2014 20:20

Otis Fox is ace!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/12/2014 20:16

Arthur or Oscar. Must admit I'm with your husband on most of them.

bluewisteria · 20/12/2014 20:14

Ahhh but initials spell O.L.D...

Hum.

Lochlan Otis Davey? You can always call them Otis but it looks better on paper this way around. My mum and cousin both have that set up.

bluewisteria · 20/12/2014 20:13

Oscar Arlo Davey

I like Otis Lochlan Davey v v much.

OutragedFromLeeds · 20/12/2014 13:09

My favourites are Austen, Oscar and Felix (but not called Fox). Not keen on the surname ones (Sawyer, Frost, Drake, Oates). Like all the rest.

Sophronia · 20/12/2014 12:57

I like Arthur, Jasper, Max, Otis and Lochlan (prefer sp. Lachlan)

claracluck1978 · 20/12/2014 12:33

Although its an ancient show, Arthur, with your surname makes me think of Arthur Daley and Minder!

I love Fox tho!

Castlemilk · 20/12/2014 11:57

Go for Otis! Unusual yes, but known, and easy to spell and say.

Otis Felix better than Otis Fox I think.
