Seren, Elsie or Nuala ???

My mum always used to spell mine Nula as she hated it being pronounced 'Nu-ar-la' it's more New-la, 'noo-lah' makes me think 'Noooo-la'

In my totally unbiased opinion Nuala is an amazing name only given to legendary people Grin

I'm 32 and have met 3 other Nuala's, one of them was younger than me! It's a good conversation starter (where's that from etc) and I love having a pretty unique name.

I totally ignored others opinions when choosing our Daughters name and went with something different to what we planned (Poppy and Madison didn't suit her so we chose Lucy) whatever you choose someone will always be 'hmm I don't like that' so just go with what you really like, time to save the world!

Elsie from your list. Seren v similar to sienna. If you like Nuala, what about Nyla/Nylah/Nilah? X

I like them all but Elsie is my favourite. Was a contender for DD after DH's granny but she asked us not too! I still love it though and it's fairly popular in our part of West London.

Seren = too close to Sienna, definitely

Elsie = therefore your best option. :)

Beangarda I remember having a laugh at the yoga clothes range called Nuala. I think the model who started it was Christy Turlington, and she pronounced it Noo-AH-la if I remember correctly. It actually sounds much nicer pronounced that way.

Still made me laugh, though.

Well, Doris or Edna will probably be fashionable soon. And anyway, Nuala, despite associated connotations, is quite a beautiful collection of vowels and consonants.

By the way Nuala isn't an abbreviation of Fionnuala. It's a name in its own right.

You won't find too many Nualas in Ireland under the age of sixty. It would be the equivalent of an English mum introducing her lovely new baby Doris or Edna to appalled friends.

Nuala sounds like a chocolate bar. With nougat and honey. But still, a chocolate bar. (I socially know a Nuala, btw. She's a bit cooler than a Mavis. I haven't told her I get chocolate cravings when I hear someone say her name though...)

Am Irish, and yes, Nuala is essentially Mavis/ Doreen. I cracked up years ago when some supermodel called her chic yoga clothes range Nuala.

I love Seren. But if you find it too similar to Sienna, how about Nahla instead of Nuala?

Seren is nice, but very close to Sienna. My favourite is Elsie, but maybe as a nn for something like Elspeth?

I think Nuala is really pretty too , but with being English i have never heard of the name before. Being told it is the equivalent to Doreen has put me off haha

Elsie is my favourite.

Not mad about Seren and Nuala is positively awful. I'm Irish and it's the most fuddy duddy auntie name ever. Not remotely granny chic.
