DH and I are expecting twins (boy and girl) and we really like slightly out-there hippy surfy names! Any suggestions?

Grin peggyundercrackers some of these names are characters in a film, the quite gloriously bonkers surfers film Point Break!

I think you have a point there as far as Jeremy is concerned, Peggy.

Grin I'm certain most of the UK would agree.

Have any of you actually seen a sea cucumber? I have - it looks like a big hairy cock covered in petrol. Please don't name your child this.

Bluestocking · 16/12/2014 11:01

Don't you think he might end up being called Sea-Puke-Umber? Kids can be so cruel.

magpieginglebells · 16/12/2014 10:59

Has to be Brad. Brad from Neighbours was the ultimate surfer dude.

peggyundercrackers · 16/12/2014 10:51

seacucumber? seriously... anyone who calls a child that needs to be bashed with a cucumber to knock some sense into them.

some of these names should only be given to characters/aliens on a film set - no one in real life should be given them. no wonder kids get picked on when given such stupid names.

Mara - I think it's Irish for 'of the sea'
Mair is similar, but Welsh.

Digory for a boy. Digory's is a surf beach in Cornwall.

Beangarda · 16/12/2014 09:41

Aussiemum, I imagine that's precisely why those names have been suggested!

OP, the most hardcore surfer I know is called Fergal. Think massive waves and freezing Atlantic off the west coast of Ireland. Some of his surfer friends are Eamonn, Paul Maura and Wolfgang. I think they'd think that 'surfie' names were ridiculous.

Eastpoint and bicnod Grin
I came here to say the surfers I know are called Robert, Muriel and Jack. Really really old fashion names.
Having a revival?

HoHonutty · 16/12/2014 09:35

Kylie and Bruce are my favourites from these suggestions.

Seacucumber and Jeremy would be considered unusual around here too.
