DH and I are expecting twins (boy and girl) and we really like slightly out-there hippy surfy names! Any suggestions?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Flotsam and jetsam are characters in little mermaid. So what about ursula?

Jessbags001 · 16/12/2014 13:03

How about Ripcurl or Riptide (either gender)? Curly/Tidy for a nickname?

Jessbags001 · 16/12/2014 13:01

Thalassemia (albeit slight different spelling) is an illness - it's a blood disorder... so perhaps not!

CharlotteLucasOliveBranch · 16/12/2014 12:51

But Thalassemia sounds like an illness or other (undesirable) condition, don't you think?

How about:

Snorkel? Driftwood? Flotsam? Jetsam? Beachcomber? BladderWrack? Ferdinand? Pericles? Holothurian? Nudibranch?
or - (I think I've found the ultimate name here!) -

DUNE ?

BreeVDKamp · 16/12/2014 12:43

I think surfers and hippies are very different stereotypes.... I don't think surfers are very hippy.

Hippies I know:
Gaia (girl)
Lisa
Daygan (boy)
Rowan (girl)
Sukhina (girl)
Hazel

I wouldn't say any of those were very surfer-y.

I vote Seacucumber!! Really like Jesse though.

SunnyBaudelaire · 16/12/2014 12:39

Thalassemia

Alpacacino · 16/12/2014 12:39

Suburban Xmas Grin I think you just got the ultimate name there!!

Alpacacino · 16/12/2014 12:38

Poseidon
Neptune
Aphrodite
Egeria

scylla and charybdis

SuburbanReindeer · 16/12/2014 12:35

A bit philosophical for this thread, perhaps, but going back to the OP, surely if a name is "unique", it's not really a name?

And if it is a name, surely that means any word can be a name? In which case seacucmber and mollusc are as valid as any others.

Though I prefer Cq-cumber myself Wink

aawww cheese, I am gutted, I really liked Seabiscuit

LetticeKnollys · 16/12/2014 11:57

Another vote for Seacucumber.

I came to suggest Skye but it's been said.

CheeseBuster · 16/12/2014 11:56

I think these type of names are kind of lame unless you are a surfy hippy couple and the fact you're on MN sort of screams otherwise. They're all trying so very hard to be different.

Hedgehogsbuzz1 · 16/12/2014 11:55

Rafe and Isla

Skye and Jed

Willow and Beau

DillyDallyDaydreamer · 16/12/2014 11:52

I have surfy friends who called their daughter Airlie after Airlie Beach (they are Aussies)

Unique, surfy, hippy names please!!
manicinsomniac · 16/12/2014 11:48

My daughter's currently reading a book with 5 kids in called:
Wisdom
Virtue
Peace
Bowie
Pixie

It also has 2 surfer dudes in but one is called Sam. The other is Quinn.

These come from a website saying they are names 'inspired by the ocean':
Girls:
Abalone, Blue, Cerulean, Coral, Hydra, Isla, Ling, Mahi, Marina, Molly, Marsha, Orca, Salamanda (!!), Shelly, Sandy, Star

Boys:
Cruise, Dorado, Dune, Finn, Gar, Jetty, Keel, Krill, Mako, Marlin, Pike, Ray, Rip, Tad, Tide, Zander

I have a (female) friend called Mala - it means 'well being' so kind of hippy.

Archduke · 16/12/2014 11:47

Hate the name but Kelly Slater - surf champ is lushy

Unique, surfy, hippy names please!!
