My favourite girl names -what do people think?

I have a few favourite girl names (due in June), interested in what others think? I won't be offended :) My top name is Audrey, probably Audrey Clothilde (Clothilde is my mum's middle name). Other top choices are Ida, Violet and Imogen. I like the nicknames Millie and Tillie (also Minnie) but can't think of any good names to go with them!

Audrey is nice. Love Violet.

marthabear · 20/12/2014 20:38

Audrey, Violet and Clothilde are all beautiful.
Imogen is okay.
Not so keen on the others.
Audrey Clothilde is a lovely combination, or have Clothilde as the first name with something else completely for the middle name.

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 20/12/2014 20:09

Violet was my mums name so is a favourite for us, altho also like a Hera (goddess of the heavens and starry skies), and as my mum has passed away if we have a girl we will possibly have Hera Violet or Violet Hera.

Ida and Clothilde are much the nicest. I would go with Ida Clothilde. Audrey always reminds me of that dreary, hatchet-faced chain-smoker on Coronation Street aeons back.

I think Violet lends itself to being pronounced as 'Vile - it', which spoils it, and Millie and Tillie are just overused. In these parts, anyway, they're nearly as insanely numerous as the Izzies.

Brummiegirl15 · 20/12/2014 18:28

Love Violet. It's on my list too.

Also like Iris and Ivy as suggested by a previous poster

SIMPLESAM · 19/12/2014 21:24

What about Wilhelmina for Minnie? Matilda for Tilly, Emilia for Milly?

I like all your names to be honest, especially Audrey.

Elis1905 · 19/12/2014 20:37

Love Audrey, Violet and Imogen. Not keen on the others.

childrensservant · 17/12/2014 21:59

I know a Tillie, short for Natalie.

pilates · 17/12/2014 21:51

I only like Violet and Imogen

TheScenicRoute · 17/12/2014 20:49

I like all of them with the exception of Ida which Im not so keen on. We also loved Minnie, but there's a good chance with her genes our girl would be tall, and I thought it would be unfortunate if she put a little too much weight on.

Love Audrey. Like Imogen. Neutral on the others.

HollyBdenum · 14/12/2014 23:31

Clothilde is pronounced Clo-TEELD.

FrancisdeSales · 14/12/2014 21:41

Love Audrey.

-illy names just to warn you DN is Polly and her best friends are Molly, Milly and Lily! (They are 8)

I find Imogen a bit lispy, Audrey is stronger.

Titsalinabumsquash · 14/12/2014 20:57

How do you pronounce Clothilde? I've never seen it as a name.

(Sorry to hijack!)

Fwiw, I love 'elderly lady' names as my DP calls them Hmm if this baby is a girl I want Iris or Ivy but he's vetoed both Sad

Alby16 · 14/12/2014 20:56

I think Imogen is beautiful, really beautiful. Quite a sophisticated name.

MIllie, Minnie, Tillie are nice but I dunno I just think the other names you picked are more classic. xx

myotherusernameisbetter · 14/12/2014 20:53

Thinking that if you had Audrey Clothilde you would be totally Coronation street as you could shorten the middle name to Hilda? :o

hoobypickypicky · 14/12/2014 20:53

I adore Audrey. Violet is sweet too.

myotherusernameisbetter · 14/12/2014 20:52

prefer Audra to Audrey, not that keen on any of the rest with Millie and Minnie at the bottom of the pile.

Tillie is not bad actually - short for Matilda? but then I think you'd be struggling to use Clothilde as a middle name as they are too similar.

Tasia or Tasie have a similar but (imo) nicer feel to the usual Millie, Minnie, mollie type names. Short for Anastasia.

htf2 · 14/12/2014 20:44

thanks all. I actually hadn't expected so many positive responses :) theas good to know - as an Australian who moved to London this year I had to google black country!

I know a Minnia "Minnie"

vomistheworst · 14/12/2014 20:04

I love Audrey and Ida.

mondaymadness · 14/12/2014 19:15

Audrey is very understated. Love it.

WowserBowser · 14/12/2014 18:21

I love Audrey. Would be my choice if i had a dd.

manicinsomniac · 14/12/2014 18:20

I really don't like Audrey. Don't like Clothilde as a first name but it's fine as a middle and I do quite like Tillie.

Not keen on Millie.

Ida and Violet are pretty.

I love Imogen.
