If you gave your DD a very unusual name

DD has a pretty rare name. I think there were 17 born in the year of her birth. It's a proper, recognisable, real name that always gets a positive reaction. It's as if people had forgotten the name existed.

Neither my son or daughter have "unusual" names; I'd say traditional and not overly common in this area. Apparently very popular in France which cheered up DD who reckons nothing is ever printed with her name on it!

They have unusual middle names though. DD's is the name we called has as a "bump", and DS is lumped with DH's granddads first name and my granddads surname as his middle names, though we still call him by the nick name we gave him as a "bump" - though didn't lumber him with it as a middle name as his three names are long enough!

Either way; whatever you call your child, people may comment. So long as they're not pointing out your childs initials now spell FUK or anything like that, ignore everybody!

So dh's great (great?) grandfather was a labourer in the spire of St Mary Redcliffe church in Bristol. When dh's grandfather was born, he was allowed to be christened there despite being of the wrong social class because of the labouring on the spire. He had the name as a middle name.

When it came to ds, we were finding it very hard to agree on a name but when dh suggested it, we both really liked it...

How do you pronounce Antigone please? Bare in mind I thought Hermione was pronounced Her-me-own until I saw the Harry Potter films Blush. I like Tiggy, Afton and Merry a lot!

Lux was a character in the Virgin Suicides! Beautiful name, means "light" in Latin.

Only on MN could we have an unusual names thread, and someone has already mentioned DD's Grin. Mine has the same name as tobys DD.

It's not a kooky name, but I think it's well down the popularity charts. Which is weird because I often get people saying what a lovely name it is.

One of my daughters has an unusual name,she's almost 1 we thought it would be shortened but it hasn't yet.

We have a Meredith too Toby. She gets Merry for short but lots of people mishear it as Mary. In a way I wish we had been more adventurous with our boys' names now.

Yes definitely agree Toby! I threw Luna into the pot and DH said "Oh she'll get called Lunatic" but you should here some of the names he suggests and defends! You're right, anyone could attach anything to any name.
