I'm imminently due my second daughter but my OH & I are struggling to stick on a name we love this time. We had Harriet for DD1 and decided on this fairly early. This time, it seems we can't agree and nothing jumping out! What do you think of our shortlist so far and any other suggestions welcome (please!) We have a short F surname and I like classic names that I could see on a 'cool indie chick' that aren't too popular

Iris - top choice at the mo, not heard of where we live
Hannah- like this but since we added to list have heard a lot
Edie- do like but would prefer as a nn (OH doesn't like Edith)
Beatrice - OH doesn't love (too royal!) but I love Bea (though maybe too short with our surname)

Thanks lovely mnet-ers. Love the suggestions you come up with on other boards, hoping with my specifics above you can help me too! :)

I wasn't being serious - Edna is surely awful isn't it?

Legionofboom · 19/11/2014 14:40

Edna brings to mind Dame Edna Everage and Edna Krabappel in the Simpsons.

Neither make the name appealing to me.

daholster · 19/11/2014 14:07

nooka you are right! Edina is better than Edwina Smile

eddiesgl1 · 19/11/2014 08:50

Vivienne coming up a bit, I read on another thread that it reminded the poster of Pretty Woman & that's all in my head since. Shame as if it stayed as Vivienne (not viv) it's lovely. Is Edna too granny chic at this point? Can't imagine a baby Edna -anyone know any?

I think Abs Fab Edie was Edina, not Edwina. You could also have Edna!

From your list I really like Iris with Harriet.
From other suggestions I think Alice, Imogen and Martha are also great fits. Or Eliza?
You could use Meredith with nn Edie?

eae123 · 18/11/2014 18:57

My name is Harriet and my sisters name is Alice, people always commented on how our names matched together! Smile

Oh and by the way Edwina can be Edie. Think Ab Fab! Or maybe don't...!

daholster · 18/11/2014 15:03

I love Eden (would love it for a boy but dh says no sulk) and Iris is cool. Astrid is cool too! Stella is a pretty name too, meaning "star".

I think Edie will be quite popular soon. Personally don't like Hannah but is my own opinion and probably influenced by past social experiences! Funnily enough I like Beatrice but not Bea.

Might be way out of turn but I think Lorelei is very cool and would go with a short surname.

I like Sylvie a lot but vetoed by dh!

Friends called their dd Daphne. 2 yrs later I'm still not sure? But could be the sort of name you mean?

Well, there's all my thoughts splurged on the paper!!!

baskingseals · 18/11/2014 14:55

You could have Eden as the full name for Edie. I love Edie.

DeeBee19 · 18/11/2014 13:03

Iris - lovely
Hannah - bit dull
Edie - lovely
Beatrice - nice but quite royal!

If you like Bea have you read the other thread running on this? Lots of suggestions of other 'Bea' names without Beatice as the full name...

eddiesgl1 · 18/11/2014 12:58

Charlyn -Clara is lovely. Nancy lovely too but one of my bffs has used this already& would rather go for a unique name in my circle. Have a family member with a boss called Adele-lets just day it doesn't conjure the happiest images in my house!

Oooo, Hazel is lovely. I wanted that this time round for a girl but it's too similar to DD1's name. Hazel and Harriet gets my vote.

eddiesgl1 · 18/11/2014 12:53

Carbolicksoaprocked I liked Phoebe early on but hubby says all he thinks of is phoebe on Friends doing her silly run! He is being uber picky Confused I think Astrid is a cool name, like that. legionofboom - Imogen also one I like & it does go well with Harriet but not sure I have that immediate love. Nn Gen maybe?
