Name to give nn Dulcie

I know that Dulcie is a name in its own right, but it sounds quite nicknamey to my mind. There is an established longer name, Dulcibella, but I can't do that to the child.

Any thoughts on a longer name which could give Dulcie as a nn?

Thanks DrinkFeck and deste. Thing is, Darcy Dowsy irritations aside, every baby girl round here's name ends in ie and are a bit grannified. Think it will date quite badly. Didn't occur to me it was a granny name, but apparently it falls firmly in that bracket. Tis a lovely name ruined for me Wink will probably keep it as a middle name though. OP, don’t let me put you off, this is just my experiences, yours may be totally different Smile

Sorry DrinkFeck, I think my last post gave the impression that Dulcie is my name. It actually belongs to my daughter. We pronounce it Dulsee, but the London accent murders it, saying Dowsy (as in 'oww' my ears hurt when you call my girl Dowsy/Darcy Grin) We are changing it.

I think it's a name. If you really like it use it. In Catalan they have Dulça which is a name. Meaning sweet I would think. Perhaps there is a foreign equivalent you could use and shorten if unsure.

I liked Posy and struggled with Josephine. I eventually accepted Posy in its own right but OH vetoed it Sad

Dulcie is a lovely name in it's own right, but being the owner of one myself, I feel I must warn you that pretty much everyone will insist on calling her Darcy. The people that don't tend to be pretty quick to point out the similarity.

You'd be best off just giving a D name you liked (because she may well just choose to use that, or a different NN) and call her Dulcie.

It would work best if the name was quite long I think:

Dorothy
Deborah
Delphine
Delilah

Dulcie is a lovely name and sounds nice on its own. I wouldn't worry about it being nicknamey.
