Rory, Seth or Robin?

Was going to come on and say I don't like the name Seth (too country bumpkin/Cold Comfort Farm for me), but then CharmQuark reminded me of Seth Lakeman, which sounds awesome - so perhaps it really does depend on the surname!

I'd still go for either Rory or Robin, though. Rory is more 'now', and quite trendy in some areas, while Robin is more retro and Enid Blytonesque. Both nice, but think Robin would just about win out for me.

Seth is a great name, but depends on your surname to sound right. Not good with 'Smithson' for example. But Seth Lakeman sounds great.

And Robin. Not if your surname is Bird. Or Banks.

The 2 Seth's I know are in arty families.

Rory good too, probably the most conservative choice of the 3.

My uncle (ex-fireman, not at all cute) is a Robin, and it definitely suits him, though he also gets called Rob and Robbo.

Robin is lovely, the other two can be depending where in the country you are, but sound bad in some accents. I suspect the Seth hatred is in areas where you might get Seff or another mangled version.

Seth sounds like death to me.
Rory is a racing car - can't get past that I'm afraid.

Robin is my favourite of those. Seth - it isn't that I don't like it, but I panic when I see it as I can't say it without lisping terribly. It is almost painful for me to try, and I don't normally have a marked lisp much For that reason I'd avoid it, if your child has a lisp it will be a torment of a name.

I love Seth and wanted it for DS - but vetoed vehemently by hubby and rest of family. Seems to be a marmite name.

I love Robin too! It would be a definite contender for us if it wasn't for our surname which makes it pretty much a no-no, sadly.

There was a thread the other day about loathed names and Seth featured quite prominently but IRL I have always had loads of compliments about it.

I have a one year old Robin and we get lots of compliments on his name. Not too many of them around yet not too unusual. My robin is such a smiley little soul. We don't shorten it to anything (yet) although he gets called bobbins quite a lot by his siblings!

Thanks all. I am drawn to Seth the most strongly. Problem is it's similar to my nephew's name so may need a chat with SIL to see if she's be offended or fear confusion!

I love all three though I have always wondered if Robin might be a bit cutesy for a grown man (though guess they can be rob). I love Seth but agree it seems to be disliked on here - something about hellfire preachers which is odd as mist old testament names are popular. Rory is nice but somehow quite difficult to say and possibly more likely to come acl others in the class

I love Robin and Seth - Rory is nice but doesn't jump out as 'great names' like the other two.

I also like Rowan, which maybe fits with your list?

Robin has such lovely images - are you due in Winter?

Seth feels outdoorsy and carpenter-ish, which I love in a boys name.
