what do we think of Rex?

Cartoon dog or filmstar?

Really can't decide if this is dreadful or tastefully unusual.

This dog insult being thrown around - how many dogs today are called Rex?

I have never met one in my adult life.

They are all called Oscar, Jake, Sam, Charlie.

Idiots calling their pets after humans.

Rex was fashionable years and years ago. Along with proper dog names, like Patch, Blackie, Major and Prince.

We have a Rex in our family and it really suits him. It is a marmite name so if you'll always have people saying they either love it or hate it. If you like it go for it. It's individual, a bit different without being too out there. I love it and don't think it's doggy at all.

I've never met an Irish dog called Rex. Will sound out the relatives in the West and see what they say.

Surely Bran is the ultimate Irish dog's name!

Love it - wanted it for DS but DH objected. DS (now 5) says he would love to be called Rex.
(PS am in rural ireland and know no canine Rex's. The only Rex I've heard of is Rex Harrison)
(and Rex from Toy Story)

I googled it and there's lots of conversations along the lines of "does it sound like a dog".

Got plenty of time to mull it over.

I really like and we're planning in using it as a mn this time. I think the dog thing is misleading as most people bow wouldn't associate it with that. It's also a personal thing I think for example I've had dogs called Jude, Ffion, Mia, and Amber so for me they are dogs names and I could never use them in a baby but for others they have no such connotation.

I really like it and it was on my list for DS2 13 years ago!

Most of the dogs I know are called things like Sam, Finn, Oscar, Molly, Meg, Sally, Louis and Ben - but nobody suggests you shouldn't give those names to your child.

Rex is a human name. As is Sam, Oscar, Charlie and Poppy.

It definitely has a dog link but that wouldn't put me off. The parks these days are teeming with Rubys and Charlies of the four legged and two legged variety.

Our black labrador was called Rex (mid 1970s). He was lovely, but to me Rex will always be a dog's name.

Sunna We had an Alsatian called Rex.

OP you can only use Rex if the middle name is Manning.

I love it but we had used it years earlier on the cat. I did contemplate having cat and son with the same name but in the end decided I couldnt do it so had to pick something else.

That's sweet MummyCoolski.
My DD is convinced we'll be calling the baby Fudge and cries if we say otherwise.
Mind you, she also thinks she has a baby in her tummy too. Must get a book about that....Hmm
