Both me and DH like it, but both my parents were physically repelled! They said it made them think if Jilly Cooper and everyone their age would think it was trashy! I thought it was quite classy meself... Anyone know what they're on about?!

Most people under 35 will probably think 'Alexa Chung'. She's a stylish woman and has given it a bit of cool I suspect.

I like that it's quite a grown up name.

I think it's lovely. It was on my list, but DP ruled out any form of Alex for either a boy or a girl. Sad

I prefer Alexia, but i think that is because I know a bloody cool Alexia! Alexa is nice but feels like less of a full name than Alexia to me.

Not a clue what your parents are on about though! It's not trashy to me.

My friend was telling me about the hair cut she wanted and had seen on a celeb -
Her: "You know that presenter, she's called Alex but it's spelled with an a at the end"
Me: "Uh, you mean Alexa??" Confused

I think it's fine, but a little bit dates; I know lots in their late teens/early 20's but no-one younger than that. I don't have any bad associations with it though.

Gives option of bring called lexi or Alex when older.

No idea on the jilly cooper ref, but I have a cousin called Alexandra with nn Alexa, and she is very cool. Alexandra has a lot of nn options. If you both like Alexa then use it, i can't see any issues and gps will come around once presented with a delicious newborn!

Love it. It's our top name if dc2 is a girl. Classic, strong, nice on a little girl and a grown up. I've read a bit of Jilly Cooper and I hadn't even considered the link! I think your in laws are over reacting. Ignore!

It makes me think of Joan Collins in Dynasty. I think she was Alexis. But the vibe sticks. Perhaps this what your parents meant when they said Jilly Cooper.

I really like it a lot.

A nice change to Alex, which you can't work out the gender at first.

Alexa is slightly different but most definitely a girl's name. I think it's quite stylish sounding.

If you like it go for it! Nevermind what anyone else thinks, it's your baby.

Yes the character in Dynasty was Alexis who was a nasty piece of work!

Not sure where the Jilly Cooper reference comes from.

I'm actually called Alexa! I remember my mother saying my grandfather didn't like the name when I was a baby but as I grew up hw said it suited me and the name had grown on him. Most people usually comment that it's very pretty and I've never actually met another Alexa, only one Alexia!
