I look in the mirror and I see a happy person with a lived in face and a DD with a normal name.

Roseformeplease · 24/10/2014 21:19

Medusa?

TSSpectreDNCOntheParanormal · 24/10/2014 21:17

What does DP think OP?

fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 21:16

You want to take swipes at what a 2 year old little girls name might be now? You may judge me for liking jezebel but some of you need to take a good hard look in the mirror.

righto. But still, you can't blame the Bible. After all, would you consider naming your child Dracula? A fictional character (though some say based on a historical one) but one with unavoidable unpleasant associations that would result in your child being mocked and teased from here to eternity.

Whatever the source, Jezebel has one extremely strong association, and one only.

Change your own name if you want it so much. Tell your DD when she's older that you really wanted this name and let her choose to change her name if she wishes. But don't saddle her with this name to make some kind of stupid point. What you're reading here is simply a reflection of what people will say and think in real life.

fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 21:14

Squoosh i really don't want to engage with you any further on this subject. If you find calling a pregnant woman dim and cruel over the internet good friday night entertainment then thats your life. Apparently some posters deem that as wise. I do not and wont fuel you any further.

A sister? Would that be Medea?

fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 21:10

Yes i believe it does go with her sisters name and our surname.

I sincerely doubt that 99% of people associate the name Charlie with cocaine although yes I'm sure many people are familiar that it does have that link.

The huge difference however between Jezebel and Charlie is that there have been hundreds of thousands of Charles/Charlies throughout history, thus charlie as slang for coke is only one tiny association in the name's much wider picture.

Jezebel doesn't have a wider picture. It has never been a widely used name as everyone associates it with Jezebel from the bible and that's how it became a slang term for prostitute. And that's how it's still known today.

fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 21:07

Were talking about the Jezebel bible association not the entire bibles credibility as a whole.

OP posts:
Itsfab · 24/10/2014 21:06

YOU might want to shorten the name to Jezzie or Bell but others won't and it was hardly the Bible that ruined the name for you Hmm.

TSSpectreDNCOntheParanormal · 24/10/2014 21:06

I think it's lovely OP. Does it go with your surname and her siblings?

fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 21:03

Wow, cruel?! You excel yourself. Charlie's a name that 99 percent of the population associate with a class A drug that rotts your brain. I do hope theres noone on here so 'cruel' as to dare to name their child that.

OP posts:
RiverTam · 24/10/2014 21:00

you think that everything in the Bible is fictional? You are very very wrong. I did Ancient Near Eastern History at uni, including the ancient history of Israel, and the Bible is the main historical source.

It's as well to have your facts straight when choosing a ludicrous name for your child that they absolutely won't thank you for.

KlokkenVin · 24/10/2014 21:00

X post with wise squoosh

KlokkenVin · 24/10/2014 20:59

Fairy, so u would use your child to push back a boundary?

Change your name to jezabel!

squoosh · 24/10/2014 20:59

If you love the name so much and are so determined to stick your fingers up to society then change your own name to Jezebel by deed poll.

Sorted.

Roseformeplease · 24/10/2014 20:58

But your daughter will be part of that society and people will snigger and judge. You are putting your OWN need to make a point before your daughter's need to have a life free from sniggering and pointing.

Why not call her Tart, Slag, Ho? Same thing. They are not "names" but insults. Jezebel just happens to be both. Would you call her Fat, short for Fatima? Or Tit, short for Titiana? All are likely to get her laughed at with no Biblical connotations.

I also think, while repeatedly calling the Bible fiction, you are attempting to goad but getting nowhere.

KlokkenVin · 24/10/2014 20:57

Lol at "older generations" op. We are so fusty, unlike young people.

You will be young for about ten more minutes and the bible and its strong associations wont have gone away.
Youth aint nothing special up against THE BIBLE.

squoosh · 24/10/2014 20:57

I certainly do judge as dim (and cruel) anyone who calls their daughter Jezebel yet refuses to acknowledge that 99% of the population see the name as being on a par with calling your daughter 'whore' or 'prostitute'.

fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 20:56

Nope im fully aware society can be entirely shitty as squoosh has demonstrated. But that will manifest itself in many ways throughout all our children's lives. Don't think it should change my view on a name. Just because society doesn't like it really doesn't mean we should all conform.

OP posts:
CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 24/10/2014 20:53

Then you are a fool. The name has much wider societal connotations and you have a very idealised view of the world we live in if you genuinely cannot see how this might be a problem.

squoosh · 24/10/2014 20:53

The bible's association is theonly association. That's the point.

fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 20:52

So squoosh you have judged me as dim and have chosen to act upon that by posting as insulting a post as your impressively large brain can manage? Thats big of you

OP posts:
fairyteepee · 24/10/2014 20:50

What has someone going into prostitution got to do with it? Or whether you'd give them your blessing? Im not saying go forth and be a prostitute! I am just totally ignoring the association the bible has brought to society.
