Name for the little Snowdrop!

Regular here with a name change as I'm mentioning my real surname.

So we're having another little northern bastard (GOT reference Wink) and we've just discovered she'll be a little girl! We had boys names all sewn up but we're floundering a bit with girl's names.

So we need something that goes with the surname Snow (no place names to avoid sounding like a weather report and anything that sounds yellow should be avoided. Summer is also out.)

We prefer classic names and names that aren't too flowery. I'm not big on most of the granny names that are so popular at the moment either. Something that can be taken seriously if she wants to become a surgeon or judge but not too harsh or heavy.

Names currently in consideration are:
Rachel
Elizabeth
Felicity
Harriet
I also love Charlotte, but am concerned that Charlie Snow sounds like Cocaine Cocaine. Could I avoid this by going for Lottie as a nn right from the start or is it just asking for trouble?

Elizabeth Snow is just perfect.

Margaret Snow is good too. But Elizabeth has the edge. Very slightly.

What a great surname-Snow. I'm jealous. My maiden and married surnames are bleurgh.

I was going to suggest Alice if no one else has...

lisucbgiberiocnha There is already a Scarlett in the family - reminds me of a skiing accident!

Of other suggestions I love Olivia and Rosalind, but Dh isn't keen. Dh loves Emmeline, but I don't (well I do but we have a big Australian contingent in the family and I hate the way it sounds with an aussie accent.)

Martha, Molly and, to a lesser extent, Ruby are all a bit too nanna-ish for me. I just think they will be very last-year very quickly.

Love Poppy but only as a nn - what could it be short for?

Prefer Lucinda to Lucy, but worried she might end up being called Cindi?

Diana is a name that should be used more, but when you think about it on a baby you kind of realise why it isn't. It's somehow a very BIG name for a little girl.

I knew a Charlotte Snow who was v partial to the powdered stuff and was therefore very proud to call herself 'Charlie Snow'. Tbf she was only about 20 HmmGrin

I love Elizabeth Snow - very glacial. And Harriet Snow is lovely too as the surname softens the harshness of the first.

I really wouldn't pick Margot or any other first name that rhymes with Snow as it's too much of a mouthful. Likewise I wouldn't choose a name that ends in 's' as it might sound a bit 'ssss-y'

I agree Elizabeth Snow sounds like a book character but I really like that. Could be a character in Jane Austen or maybe a mystery....Detective Elizabeth Snow has a good ring to it. Anyway, I think it sounds professional but fun, if that makes sense.

Miranda Snow is good... though Miranda Frost is a Bond girl in case that bothers you (a rather elegant one mind you)

Alex Snow kind of runs into each other. I'd avoid names (or ones with obvious nicknames) which end in a S or X sound.

Snow is a great surname to have - goes beautifully with most of your choices.

Elizabeth Snow is stunning - was just going to say it sounds like a lady novelist, and saw previous comments about literary heroines. It definitely has an elegant, bookish quality to it.

Not usually a huge fan of Harriet, but it does go beautifully with snow. Also liked the suggestions of Miranda and Tabitha.

Think you're spoilt for choice really!

definitely. I also like Marguerite.
NNs are tricky. I have an Alexandra and it was only when she started High school that she was called Alex. I have never called her Alex, but she does have another nn that I use all the time. I do think with longer names you do have to think of NNs, because inevitably they will be used.

I like Maggie though, but I am not so keen on Alex. Oh that great god retrospect Grin

I've always loved Josephine but the Jo Snow thing put me off. If we preempted the problem by calling her Josie, do you think we could avoid the issue or do you think it's inevitable?
