It isn't due a revival. It is very 80's. Not trampy (cheers Squirm!). I'd say better than Sally, Kerry and Keely. It's not the worse name but there are many better. The smelly/ jelly/ belly rhymes aren't bothersome. I'd choose something else Grin

If you grew up in the 80s in the North East pretty much every other kid in your class at school was a Kelly Anne of some spelling variation And the north west too. I'm a Kelly Anne. I like Kelly, but always hated Anne!

I think of Kelly Slater first…hmmm…

An hour or so later I consider Kelly as a girl's name and I just think it's still too dated. I would put it in the same group as Kristy, Kimberley, Belinda etc.

What about Chloe? Katie? Amy?

I never really got used to it as a first name.

While I prefer it over Kerry, and especially over Sally, I still wouldn't use it. I think it says 70s and 80s.

I would choose something like Kirsty, Cassie or Hayley if I wanted something cute. I know they are a bit dated too, but they sound a bit less so than Kelly to me, and cuter.

I think of it first & foremost as a surname, tbh.

It's my name and I was named after a Charlie's Angel. It's therefore a kick ass name :o

Makes me think of Joni Mitchell's baby Kelly (Green) that she gave away for adoption. She wrote her song Little Green for her. Bloody heart rending stuff.

I went to school with loads of girls called Kelly (Scotland 1980's).

I know all kids will find something to take the p out of other kids but every time I hear the name I can hear the boys chanting:

Kelly smelly with the big fat belly at this poor girl in the playground.

Must learn to associate it with swishy haired cheerleaders instead!

I'd say 70's rather than 80's but that's semantics! I also have issues when people prn it "Kally" rather than "Kelly", subtle but important to me. It's a pretty name, I like it.

I second Keely (but then I'm biased and you spelled it right!!) but the number of times it would be written as Kelly or Keeley or Keyleigh or Hayley Hmm would probably get on your nerves as much as it has mine for the last 30 years! lol

Gosh, I am glad that being named Kelly hasn't stopped me having too much class to ever declare a name is trampy Hmm

OP, I like my name but it was very popular in the late 70s/80s. I used to be one of five Kellys with a child at my sons preschool. So you probably won't find lots of children named Kelly but possibly lots of parents.
