Need MN testing of chosen name

Pretty set on Cassia Rose for forthcoming DD but am aware it is something of a marmite name on here so I'm interested to see if any of the arguments against it can put me off. So, if you are not a fan of the name, please tell me why. If you do like the name then would you choose it yourself? If not, why not? Alternative suggestions are welcome too.

I didn't confess this in my earlier posts, but I have a DD with middle name Rose Grin.

She has an unusual, non-English (matching the other half of her dual heritage) first name. We very very deliberately chose a "boring", popular, unambiguously female name for her middle name, to give her another option when she's older, in case she gets sick of her name being mispronounced or whatever.

We don't regret it. We have mused on it and have never thought of a name we like as much and which flows as well with her first and surnames. But it is undoubtedly popular.

Of your other options I most like Cassia Seren, but Seren would have failed our "boring" test!

TotleighTowers · 20/10/2014 13:35

I know a little Cassia - she is very cute and everyone thinks it is a beautiful and unusual name. Pronounced Cass-ee-a, not Cash-a.

I think Cassia Rose sounds lovely, even if Rose is a bit over-used as a middle name at the moment (rather like Elizabeth was in my generation). Cassia Seren is nice too. I also like Cassia Faith, Cassia Leigh and Cassia Grace (although Grace has the same popularity issues as Rose).

Agree with BlueStars that Cassia Elizabeth is a bit of a mouthful (although having said that, my first name ends in an "A" and my middle name is Elizabeth, and I've never had any problems with it...). Still, I'd go for Seren or Rose over Elizabeth.

Boglin · 20/10/2014 10:31

Hakluyt now that could put me off! I have only known it as cinnamon bark, didn't realise it was also another name for senna. Will need to think more on that one!

Sapat, it's not short for Cassandra, just in a similar vein. It's not short for anything as far as I know.

fancyacupoftea I'm rather partial to a Kir Royale so there is no issue with the similarity to cassis in my book! Grin

Ham69 I suggested Primrose to DH and he looked at me like this Hmm so think that's a No.

Thanks for all the input. I actually don't know any other children with Rose as a middle name and it is still in the running but I am coming round to some of the alternatives. I do want something classic as an MN so that if she loathes Cassia when she is older she has something else to fall back on.

Can't remember who mentioned the Matched trilogy but are there any plans to make a film/films of the books? Cassia was on the table for DS 2 years ago and I remember the books being mentioned then but nothing has come of it since. I've not read the books but if she is a decent character then I don't mind too much, I can't see it shooting up in popularity that quickly anyway, it's pretty far down the list at the moment.

I like it :) I would pronounce it Cass-ee-ah too. Don't mind Rose but do agree it's very common now. What about Cassia Bethan for a mix of Elizabeth and welsh :)

fancyacupoftea · 19/10/2014 19:27

Every time I see it I see Cassis and think of the liquour. I don't know if that's a bad thing or not?

Sundaedelight · 19/10/2014 19:19

I love Cassia! It's a really pretty name. I know one in RL pronounced Cass-ee-ya. Never heard anyone attempt to pronounce it the other way either. Cassia Elizabeth is a beautiful name.

Ham69 · 19/10/2014 19:10

I like it but bored of Rose as middle name as pretty as it is. How about Cassia Primrose?

AWombWithoutAFoof · 19/10/2014 18:03

Yes, Cassia is lovely. I agree with everyone else, Rose is the default middle name choice of the Lacking In Imagation.

Beautiful as a first name choice though.

persepolis123 · 19/10/2014 17:37

I like it but then my DS is Cassius so I may be biased Grin I don't see what's wrong with Rose either. Yes it's quite a common middle name now but it's a classic. Elizabeth is nice too.

SugarPlump · 18/10/2014 22:38

I really like Cassia Leigh, I know it's not my child to name but I just like the way it flows.

I didn't have a problem with Cassia Rose just don't like it as much.

Sapat · 18/10/2014 22:30

Is Cassia short for Cassandra? I lump it with the Kacey, Finlay etc sort of names, a bit fashionable.

Hakluyt · 18/10/2014 21:55

Cassia is a herbal laxative. It's a lovely sound- but I can,t see past that, I'm afraid.

Lunastarfish · 18/10/2014 21:51

Cassia is beautiful, I think the mn issue is with Rose.

moxon · 18/10/2014 11:00

Fwiw I think rose goes very, very well with cassia. I don't think people are going to walk around going 'what a mneh second name you have!'
But it you are thinking of changing it, I'd stick with a one syllable name for the flow.

WowserBowser · 18/10/2014 10:37

Like Cassia! Agree Rose is so overused. Elizabeth and Seren are better.

BlueStarsAtNight · 18/10/2014 10:01

I think Cassia is pretty. And I actually really like it with Rose - it's such an uncommon first name (I've never heard of it before!) that I don't think it matters if the mn is quite popular.

I think Cassia Seren sounds nice, but really not keen on Cassia Elizabeth-that's a bit of a mouthful and I don't really like when a name ends in a vowel then starts in a vowel, it feels 'clunky' on my mouth if that makes sense!

JazzAnnNonMouse · 18/10/2014 09:04

Cassia is a beautiful name and rose as the middle name is very pretty.

I'm glad you're not pronouncing is cash a Smile

Littleturkish · 18/10/2014 08:58

Love Cassia. Very classic and beautiful.

BiggerYellowTaxi · 18/10/2014 08:55

I think Cassia Elizabeth and Cassia Seren are both really nice names Smile.

AlpacaYourThings · 18/10/2014 08:49

I don't think it's ridiculous, just not to my taste!

It's just personal choice but I don't like Cassia as it reminds me of Cassandra and Cassie and I dont like that type of name.

I think Rose is a very dull name and is over used as a middle name and as a hyphenated first name like Emma-Rose. A bit like May IYKWIM.

But don't listen to me if you like it!

Boglin · 18/10/2014 08:32

Thanks for the replies, I'm really surprised that Rose has invoked such a reaction though, I thought it was quite innocuous! Have been having a think about alternative middle names and Elizabeth is now on the table (MIL's middle name) and Seren (nod to Welsh ancestry). I like a lot of the suggestions made as well so will give them consideration.

Alpaca no need to be sorry but could you elaborate on why you don't like it? I need to see whether any reasons against it are strong enough to put us off the name as I don't want to lumber her with something ridiculous.

Aherdofmims · 17/10/2014 22:06

I like it.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 17/10/2014 22:05

It's nice but I think you'll get lots of people pronouncing it Cash-a

AlpacaYourThings · 17/10/2014 22:02

Sorry, I do not like it at all.
