Deirdre or Daphne, can't decide which. Deirdre Ann, or Daphne Helen.

Sorry both terrible names for a little girl. but if they were the only 2 names in the world. I'd go with Daphne Helena. Helena is a name though as is Ann

My great aunt was Daphne Helen! I think it's a fab name and would LOVE to use for DD2 although agree with others it might raise a few eyebrows in non-hipster circles. The Deirdres I know are Irish and go by Dee, which is a pretty cool name.

I think with your strong - er - opinions about names offered, you don't need any more names.

You can take negativity over Deirdre or daphne so stick with one of those.

Claudia, no, I think claud is a male name, like paul.

Allegra is a car.

Antonia will be called Toni. ( fine wines and Belgian chocolates?)

Aurelia seems like the practice name for an Ear Clinic.

What about saoirse? (Pronounced seer-sha). I love this name but my dp can't even say it never mind spell it so I,ll never get to use it!

Deirdre makes me think of "Deirdre of the Sorrows", a bloody awful play by JM Synge that I had to study at school. >

Delphine is lovely - very Cold Comfort Farm though I think that might have been Elphine. I know a strapping Daphne - well over 6 foot and thats put me off a bit as shes quite the bruiser.

I like the name Daphne. I suggested it years ago for various DDs - no go with DH.

I knew a lovely pair of old ladies years ago called Daphne and Peggy. Peggy is (I gather) trendy at the mo and I can't understand why Daphne isn't because it's much nicer. Peggy sounds like something you need for the clothesline.

I think that Daphne is lovely, quite elegant and timeless. I also like Della and Dahlia.....

Delphine is wonderful tooGeorgie.

But Deidre would be an absolute no no for me sorry.... Just sounds really gloomy name, I cannot imagine calling a child by that name......

Daphne Helen is lovely. Deirdre sounds too much like dreary and really associate it with big glasses and fags. Sorry!

Daphne would have been on my list for DC2 had DC1 been Ursula, but DH had very different lists! I like Daphne, Deirdre not so much.

Neither name is to my personal taste, but Daphne Helen flows better. Deirdre Ann is hard to say and would turn into Deirdreyann, if you see what I mean.

My favourite name that follows the ee-ah rule would be Delia, or even better Cordelia.

Thank you squoosh , I am taking the "breathtakingly beautiful" rather than the "Deirdre Barlow" from that. Hoping it will balance out my sudden pariah-like status.

Though actually I do like Daphne it's very pretty. Just a shame about the Scooby Doo association (we have had A LOT of Scooby in this house so I may not be a good straw poll example.....)
