Class-less, unpretentious but fun and unique names

Discussing names with DH earlier. Either sex. We are fussy... these are the qualities we both agree on!

I love Georgia but DH reminded me that some would pronounce as 'Jaw-jah' and that really put me off!

Quite like androgynous names too- Charley, Alex etc.

Ideas?!

I wouldn't choose Georgiana, I think it is a bit too frilly, I was more thinking of Georgia alternatives! Maybe I should just keep trying to convince DH that Georgia is fine! Harriet has certainly moved up my list so that could be another option.

Do you think so Trills? What about names like Sarah or Robert? Not really v popular at the mo, but certainly not class-specific (unless my Australianness is blocking my class-radar!)

The only way a name can really be "classless" (in that nobody will make assumptions about you based on it) is if it is very popular.

How do you like Georgiana, if you don't like Georgia? As in Mr Darcy's little sister.

I also like Hettie...but not henrietta!

Thehorse- Georgette is a good idea. Georgina, Georgia, Georgiana... any other George names?

My name has been mentioned lots of times ;)

The only Georgia I know pronounces it so you can definitely hear the i - George-i-a kind of like Julia or Lydia. If you wouldn't like it pronounced that way that might be another reason to avoid it as some people definitely would. Personally I rather like Georgette, which is very rare nowadays but not difficult to recognise and pronounce. You could still use short forms like George or Georgie or even Ettie or Etta.

Have known a few girl Charlies hyphenated with another name, Charlie-May etc. I used to know a female Robbie (think it might have been short for Robina), which I thought was quite fresh and fun.

For a boy, it doesn't exactly fit your request for "unique" but I really like Sam for all the other qualities you mentioned. It always sounds like a really happy, energetic little boy's name to me. Could be Samuel for a full form or something more unusual like Samson or even just Sam.

Stevie (for a girl) is short for Stephanie. Or you can have Steph.

I know a lady in her 70s who is called Ellis, and it really suits her too.

Elliot just makes me think of ET going "Eh-lee-ott"!!!

RIGHT! The Georgia thing... basically we have family in Essex and I don't like the way Georgia is pronounced in that accent. I didn't want to admit that so I tried to explain it but clearly couldn't! Sorry if I have offended anyone!!! Blush

Surf, there are lots of Georgia songs, that is a big part of the attraction.

Great suggestions- Pants, I like Bernie too!

I also like Stevie and Jeanie. Is Stevie short for anything?
