Rafferty?

Please help - we cannot decide on a boy's name and I'm due any day now (don't know if it's going to be a boy or girl yet). Also can't decide on surname so I'm feeling a bit lost atm.

I heard Rafferty the other day and I'm after some opinions. I have seen previous threads about the name and opinions really changed in a couple of years - so I would be interested to see what you all think in 2014.

My other faves are Jacob (Jake), Joshua (Josh) and Samuel (Sam) but DP has vetoed them all boo! I really like names that are longer, with a good, obvious nn like these (so Rafferty would be maybe Raff) - other name suggestions would be good too!

Thanks so much!

I love Raffy so Rafferty was a strong contender for one of my boys and I sometimes wish we had gone for it but I couldn't get past it sounding like a furniture shop. How about Tobias, Eli, Sebastian, Ezra or Elias? I tend to find double barrelled surnames don't get used in practise. Congratulations on your imminent arrival and I hope it all goes smoothly (smile)

If you want Raff, how about Raphael?

Wordsaremything · 12/10/2014 20:31

Oh please no not rafferty something-something . No no no no!

BabyGoose · 12/10/2014 20:29

It's lovely. Cute as a baby and strong as an adult.

ClashCityRocker · 12/10/2014 20:26

RebeccaCloud9 · 12/10/2014 20:26

Tsukuru thanks, great list - I agree about those 2 names, annoyed that DP doesn't agree! I love quite a few of those but family/close friends already have them.

I like the idea of Bennett as it has family connections but hadn't thought of it as a first name before - will add it to the possibles. Love Alexander and Caleb too.

Saxophone solo. That's what my immediate thought was.

Surname issue is we're not married - so DP's, mine or a combo of both.

I quite like it, though prefer Samuel and Joshua as more traditional names

Other possible suggestions that could suit...

Dexter /dex
Lucas / Luke
Finley / Finn
Milo
Frederick / Freddie
Harrison / Harry
Jasper
Ethan
Oscar /ozzy
Caleb
Jackson
Isaac / Zach or Ike
Alexander / Alex, Xander, Sasha, Ali
Benjamin or Bennett
Jude
Max

Hmm that was my worry Sad. Any better ideas? I'm thinking this baby will be 'baby boy' forever if it's team blue!

I do much like the name Rafferty (I know a nice one), even though I always think of a raffle (Rafflety), and then feel grumpy because I never have any luck at even the most mundane raffles. Angry
