How is Hermione viewed these days?

Is Harry Potter still too recent? I hope not because I love it and even dh agrees! It would make FOUR on our girl list! (Still none properly on the boys... Maybe Monty... Suggestions welcome...)

But we don't really want an overwhelming Harry Potter link. A bit is ok...

I def associate it with HP but that's because I don't know any others . I think there's probably just enough distance that it's ok now. My only concern is it's quite a mouthful and there's no obvious nice nickname.

There was a child born in Scotland last year called Bellatrix. At least Hermione is a bit more of a role model!

I think it will hit the sweet spot soon as Harry potter has meant people know how to pronounce it properly and brought the name into more familiar usage, but will be far enough in the distance to not be the overwhelming association as a child grows up. I think it's beautiful, and it brings back some very Jilly Cooper memories for me (a good thing).

I really like it! It's on my list, only concern I have is can ppl pronounce or spell it and does it sound too posh! Overall though I think it's lovely and could maybe have a nickname mimi Smile

It's a great name! Even if people NOW associate with Harry Potter (because that's the only Hermione they know), they will quickly start to associate it with your dd! And, as others have said, for her peergroup Harry Potter is just one of many books. Also, she's not a bad or mean character, is she? Great name choice imo.

For boys, how about Dominic, Quentin or Cassius?

Nope, nothing at all wrong with charging around a lacrosse field in 1937! I'd be Beryl and I'd be in the kitchen mending Hermione's party frocks.

It just sounds ultra posh to me. I picture Hermione charging around a lacrosse field in 1937.

Well it does sound really Harry Potter to me, but it probably won't among her peer group, and by the time she's an adult, Harry Potter will probably be just another book. So I'd say if you like it, go for it. Smile

Besides, according to the ONS website there's an increase in Game of Thrones names for babies, so you daughter may have other classmates named after book characters.
