What are unusual names that have stood out for you in your dc's class?

There is an Alaska which makes me smile every time I hear it and a Francesca and Emma which are nice because they are names that I hardly hear on children.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

We have a Circus... rather unusual. And an Etta, which I think is a very lovely name.

SingSongSlummy · 08/10/2014 22:56

DD2 has an Orestes in her class!

I met a little girl called Oceana, which I thought she was lovely. She was very pretty & striking & could totally carry it off.

calzone · 08/10/2014 22:49

Paxton

Destiny

Wyatt......Grin

BackforGood · 08/10/2014 22:47

I met a boy recently, called Po!

I checked (in my line of work, honestly, not just cos I'm a nosy bint Wink) and he's got a formal, registered name, but his family asked that he be known as 'Po' Grin

DramaAlpaca · 08/10/2014 22:38

I used to work with a woman who named her son Barney Bob.

nicename · 08/10/2014 22:34

How could I forget - an old neighbour: Nellie Oliphant.

nicename · 08/10/2014 22:32

There was a China Blue at nursery and a Xchelle (pronounced like the loo roll brand).

burgatroyd · 08/10/2014 21:40

I had a moment where I wanted to use the name Sparkle.

Maud-Lynn... That sounds like a stage name.

longest do you live in London? Love this names, esp Appolonia

CocktailQueen · 08/10/2014 21:38

Omg, longest - where do you live?! Shock

Letthemtalk · 08/10/2014 21:38

A little boy called Sunni, dd2 says he's called that because he looks sunny, I don't know who he is but will be on the look out for a radiant 5 year old in the playground.

Devora · 08/10/2014 21:33

Does no-one else think that Maud-Lynn is HILARIOUS? Funnily enough, nor did my colleagues in the office.... I still crack up every time I think of her, though, so it's working for me Smile

I know a Winter and a Pooky and a Topsy.

Still kicking myself I didn't call my daughter Joan...

MizLizLemon · 08/10/2014 21:29

There's a girl at DDs school called Ruby-Blue, it always makes me smile because it is/was the name of a nightclub in Leicester square.

longest · 08/10/2014 21:25

Wibbly Pig! Cute!

We have:
Flower
Artemis
Apollonia
Anastasia
Eurydice
Ocean
Katinka

And I'd better stop now or I'm going to be wayyyyy too identifiable Smile

NorbertDentressangle · 08/10/2014 21:19

I know of a little Willoughby who can't say it properly so calls himself Wibbly. Smile

sleepdodger · 08/10/2014 21:15

Velvet
Pinky

Hulababy · 08/10/2014 21:05

I taught a Matteo recently - father was Italian.
Child pronounced it Mat-ay-oh though father pronounced it slightly different.

weebarra · 08/10/2014 21:05

Vance

IsabellaRockerfeller · 08/10/2014 20:59

There's a girl called cinnamon at ds's school

also brothers in year 2 and 3 called Stephen and Darren.

dietcokeisgreat · 08/10/2014 20:38

Tixy (not short for anything i discovered at a party)
Mya-mae (poor girl, what a mouthful)
Twins: evie-mae and ellie-mae

These are 3year olds at preschool. What is it with -mae ? I'd never come across that until recently.

I'm afraid i think i'm very boring and like old fashioned recognisable names. I think some thought is needed to how a name could affect a child throughout life.

BikeRunSki · 08/10/2014 20:30

I've mentioned him on here before, but I once worked with a Comfort Golightly. A huuuuge Nigerian man with such a delicate name!

OpiesOldLady · 08/10/2014 20:20

Salem and Tate. Both boys.

NancyJones · 08/10/2014 20:13

Devora, I love both but ds1 is Jonathon known as jonny so Joan and Jean sounded too similar otherwise I would have seriously considered them for dd. The girl called Jeanie is in his class and I just think it sounds beautiful and classy yet so underused.

Lindalehughes · 08/10/2014 20:12

I know a Stanley and used to know a Douglas. I love both those names.

moxon · 08/10/2014 19:35

Lol purple
