Baylor?

We were originally going with Laurel for our DD, but DH discovered this today and really likes it, but I'm a little unsure - what are MN's opinions?
He really likes the meaning of it and it does fit our family - it means horse trainer.

Coughle - Oh yes I think it's fine as a NN, I just wouldn't use it as a full name because of that. (Although one of DS's friends nicknames is Lol, but she is 6/7, so no big deal at that age Smile )

Kittymautz - because as I stated a few other times in this thread, it is the opinion of my DH and DC that matter most to me/us, other people liking it is just a bonus, so the point of this thread was to find out people's opinions on it.

Virtually everyone says they hate it, no don't use it etc

OP says they have settled on the name anyway.

Am I missing something? What was the point?

Oh that's perfectly fine, it's not like calling her "Lol" or "XXX" (spelled xxxxxxxxx of course but pronounced x).

(And presumably Bae wouldn't even be the spelling if you were to use Bay as the official name.)

Coughle - Bay = Bae = before anyone else, also short for babe.

MokunMokun - I have no idea why it got so many replies. I haven't been on MN for long but it seems like a lot

It has grown on me. Thanks to this thread Baylor now sounds like a perfectly reasonable name and I think Bay is a cure mn. Can someone please tell me what it means in textspeak though?? Blush

Ok, I didn't understand why we ended up with 416 posts for Baylor which just doesn't seem like a spectacularly odd name but I get what you are saying it's like when people spend three hours down the pub arguing about something that they can't even remember the next day. ;)

I think, mokun, we are sensing logical flaws in the argument. If you could offer a well-reasoned non-pothole-littered treatise on 'Cuntbadger' the posters would probably all only say 'well, it is a stupid name, your funeral' and the thread would only be 30replies long. I think the blatant inconsistencies in witty's logic - together with the somewhat ridiculous nature of the name - is what perpetuates the negative (and IMO often constructive) comments from other posters.

I really don't understand why it bothers people so much. It's not like she's calling her baby Cuntbadger or something like that. Baylor is fine. Not to everyone's tastes but absolutely fine. I have no idea why people think her daughter will get bullied or it will stop her being a lawyer or whatever. Just crazy!

Anyway if I were the OP I'd go with a longer middle name to balance it out.

You wouldn't want the baby to have a name that is one of today's most popular chat speak words, but that is what you are going to call her on a daily basis because the DCs love it and think it's cute.

Even though they love Bay and think it's cute and that is sufficient reason to use it daily, it is not sufficient reason to have it on her birth cert. The reason not not have it on her BC is that it is one of today's most popular chat speak words.

Smile I was going to say 'is there any names to anyone's taste' but then I was thinking about how Elizabeth has been around and popular for so many years.. maybe it really is the perfect middle name for her (this last part is directed to @QueenOfThorns too). Just need to find another middle name to go with it.

I actually don't think you'll improve on Elizabeth as a middle name, it seems to work really well. But, I would seriously think about using the Bayla spelling instead, it's so much more feminine.

On a scale of 1 to Allexxxis, Bayla Elizabeth is rather nice!
