Well it's official! Those never coming back 60s/70s names are on their way!

Ok, so not official but today I met an uber cool mum. You know, effortlessly chic with stunning DH and beautiful boden catalogue children? Anyway, she had a 2yr old DS called Jonny and baby twin girls called...Pamela and Jennifer. Now I'm not sure if Jennifer has ever gone out of fashion but Pamela certainly had, surely? She called them Jen and Pam too! I said I thought her children were beautiful and that she was probably setting a new trend in 60s retro cool names (I meant this genuinely). She said yes, she was quite sure that by the time her Pam was 10, Pamela would be the new Florence. I believed her too!
I realised I'm probably outing where I live as there can't be that many but hey, I thought it was cool!

I love Belinda too, yet I don't like Linda.

I love Caroline, Joanne/Joanna and Alison.

I know a ridiculous number of Gillians born in early 70's.

Claire was the 'jessica' of the 1970s. I had 3 in my class and another two on my street

drunkendonut, those names would have sounded dated to me when I was picking my children's names roughly a decade ago but now I feel tired of soft, feminine, la la la slightly frilly names that all end in -ia or la or a. SO ready for a good strong name like Stephanie or Rachel

Given enough time, most names are likely to come back into fashion again. Thinking of the under-10's I know, I can think of 1 Jennifer, 2 David's, 2 Matthew's, 2 Emma's, 1 Christopher.

Although mumsnet has forever ruined Wendy for me.

I went to school with Karen, Jackie, Susan, Lesley, Fiona and Wendy and I thought Wendy was the best name ever!

Belinda. Fantastic name. Also quite like Deanna. There was a girl at school called Deanna de Quincy, I've only recently realised just what a brilliant name it is.

Daphne is more American, isn't it?

I love Adelaide but it is incredibly old-fashioned.

I know a mum with a Stephanie, Carla and Melissa all under 10.

I quite like that there is such a mix of more modern names and older more classic ones too.

Cider I humbly apologise. We have obviously never met as I'm sure you are lovely. It's funny though how you go through a phase of meeting similar people. All the Michaels i've met in my life have been a bit mental. My father included. In a good way but mental just the same.

Wow, so my OH is ahead of the trend then as for our DD (due January) he has suggested Lisa, Joanne and Nicole.

All very retro? and all vetoed as I am not one for setting trends!

I'm a midwife and these names are definitely back, especially for boys.

In the last few months I've seen a baby Jason, quite a few Stephens, Mark, Boris (is that 70s), and a Christopher and a Jonathan.

We also had several girls called Lynsey, and nearly all were specifically named after Lynsey De Paul.

Actually, Emma Karen, or Shelley Joanne..these names sound strong and clear to me, much more assertive and defined than Lola Indigo or Josie Mae!

born in 69, and my school year was peppered with Jacquelines, Tracys, Tricias, Anns, Deborahs, Susans and Janes, with the odd Wendy and Lorna thrown in. There were eight Jacquelines alone in my year at high school.

Boys, several Darrens, Bruces, Colins, Allans and a load of Craigs and Sandys (Scotland)

I met a two year old Carol the other day; it didn't sit well on her imo. Most of the Carols I know are in their late 40s/early 50s

I do like the name Julian, but Crispin is just too cruel.
