So what alternatives to Jasper can we use for a boy?

We've not found out what we're having. Our daughter. has a very unusual name but not sure we'd choose something that different again.

Other names that have been considered and vetoed for one reason or another are Rowan, Ernest, Frederick, Tobin. Girls names I think we're sorted for (although wouldn't say no to any good suggestions).

I would just use Jasper. They can have the same name. Most people who meet baby Jasper won't know dog Jasper and those who do will get used to there being two for now. I'm guessing dog Jasper has 10 years or so ahead of him whilst baby Jasper will have that great name for maybe 100!

I would pronounce Jolyon as 'Jole (rhymes with mole) -yon

Now I like Asher but would never use either this or Ashley as the nickname 'ash' just makes me think of fags. Urgh. Fag ash. Ashtray. Yuk.

Asher sounds similar to Jasper. From Hebrew, means 'happy/fortunate'. Nickname Ash, gives you a nature connection.

Leaf/Leif? Though depending on what your surname is, anything tree-related might be a bit daft - oh, but you said Woody had been on your list, didn't you?

The vicar of our local church was called Frog, no idea if it was his real name.

I quite like Ezra. Rowan could still be on the list! I still like it a lot. DP loves Lucas but I'm not keen.

What about some nature type suggestions? Anyone got any good ones that would actually be usable? I've suggested Bay and Sage in the past... Forrest is a no go because of our surname.

Yes, Gabe, I just don't like it and having been given a name myself with the most terrible one option of a nickname I spent my whole adolescence asking people not to shorten it.

My brother and sil were going to call my niece Daisy but changed their mind as that's my other brother's dog's name. Imagine the confusion at family events.....'Daisy, come for your dinner' and a toddler and a dog both run to the kitchen.

Torin was on our list, but not sure if it'll now be vetoed in the new 'can't be too different' criteria.

I'm beginning to wonder (hope?) if it'll just be a girl and solve all of our probems.
