Popular baby names you're bored off...

Amelia must be a classic because its been in no. 1 spot for yonks.

I know people with a common name who love their name. And those who hate it.

I do love an unusual name though...even if it's hideous.

And I agree. In London I don't know any Evie or Milly's but there are loads up North.

I didn't think most of the early posters were saying they didn't like the names, just that they seem to have heard a lot lately?

As thecaroline says, if we're looking at adults, if I meet another Laura, Claire or Matt... Names do have patterns and cycles, and sometimes a few names seem extremely popular in some areas.

What if someone in your circle of friends did call their child Jack. Would you mark them down for it?

To say people have heard them so much they're bored of them is one thing. But I don't agree that choosing popular and/or classic names means the parent is lacking imagination etc etc

Those congratulating themselves on choosing an 'unusual' name may well find those names the subject of a similar thread 20+ years from now

And why does anyone care what anyone else calls their children, these threads are always going to make someone feel bad.

As for Ralph I wouldn't pick it myself but its much better than all the Jack and Harry's sorry.

If people do not like the names I said of the newly born children of people I know then I am sure that wasnt the point of the thread. I am just pointing out the types of names I am around and that friends wouldnt call their children Jack type names. Ever.

Isabelle, Isabella, Isobel, gorgeous names but hear them constantly. Also Ellie, so many Ellie's, I'm not keen on the name at all.

I don't agree with the 'its popular for a reason' argument. Its popular because whether we like it or not we follow trends.

DS1 (14) is Jack.

According to some on here, this means I lack imagination.

I don't give two hoots though.

Jack was named for both of my grandfathers; one of whom is John (known as Jack) and the other has John as his middle name.

For some people, when naming their children, it isn't about trying to be "different", some of us like to honor family and friends.

And as a graphic designer and artist, I can assure you, I have plenty of imagination thank you very much. I wouldn't have got far in my career without it!!

Boys - Sam, Ben and William

Have had a lot of friends had babies recently and the names seem to be getting more and more out there or old fashioned. In the last few months we've had willow, ernie, betsy, bay, sterling, maya and bellamie.

I work with kids, which has spoiled so many names for me.
Ones I'm sick of are the twee/old fashioned names mostly ending in ie:

Alfie
Albie
Charlie
Louis
Harry
Also Jack/Jake (Not twee, but there are about 10,000,000 of them in every school)

Evie
Ruby
Lily
Daisy
especially Poppy

Agree with pp that Hunter should not be a name.

Isobel is too beautiful and classic to be boring.

I have heard Archie and Sidney rather more than I'd like to, lately.
