I know a little Riley, he's a sweetie. I feel a bit offended on his behalf, and really think it's unnecessary to be so mean and Katy Hopkinsesque about a name. A simple 'I prefer Joshua' would do.

Tranquilitybaby · 07/10/2014 00:07

I like both, but both are very common in my part of the country.

ShadowStar · 03/10/2014 20:03

There's 2 Riley's under 3 yrs at the DC's nursery.

morechildrenplease · 02/10/2014 23:28

I love Riley. Really surprised it isn't liked. I don't know any Rileys

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 02/10/2014 23:26

Joshua David probably flows the nicest IYSWIM.

I like Joseph & Liam too, although two J names might be a bit of a mouthful.

Louisejames31 · 02/10/2014 23:21

I like,
joshua Joseph
Joshua Liam
Joshua David
Joshua riley
Tell me what you think... :-)

Ha, I'm a Charlie and my brother is a Joshua!

I really, really don't like Riley.

SummerScoop · 28/09/2014 02:00

Another vote for Joshua. Sounds lovely with Charlie too.

Honsepricesarecrazy · 27/09/2014 22:10

Joshua! Riley is dreadful.

Racheyg · 27/09/2014 21:55

Joshua. Its what I wanted to call my little boy.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/09/2014 17:50

Rory?

Castlemilk · 27/09/2014 15:11

For trad, how about Edward? You could shorten to Ed or Ned which your partner might like?

Riley is nasty - glad it's a no!

Good middle names for Joshua:

Joshua Joseph
Joshua Edwad
Joshua Liam
Joshua David
Joshua Riley? - ok as a middle?

Others which may get past your partner and would fit with Charlie:

Rory
Richard (Richie?)
Daniel (Dan, or Dash even?)

mathanxiety · 24/09/2014 23:31

Jo-sy-ah. It's old testament. It was just the only other name I knew that could shorten to Josh Smile

Louisejames31 · 24/09/2014 22:50

Charlie James.Yes I think I prefer more classic names and my partner seems to prefer more unusual or surname type names . So its. Hard to find one we both like . How do you pronounce josiah I'm not sure about that one ;)

I think boys names are particularly hard. DS was unnamed for nearly a week.

Joshua is really nice. And I like Josh.

Josiah was always one of my favourites. I loved the West Wing and loved Josiah Edward (the name of a main character, if you never watched it). I didn't use it though.

What is your taste generally? Charlie (or is it Charles) James is very classic. Is that what you're aiming to replicate?

Louisejames31 · 24/09/2014 22:38

I know joshua James go really well together Its a shame its my sons middle name. I think joshua David sounds good although I'm not a lover of David. I might not even have joshua yet its the only name that we have agreed on so far. How hard is it to find a name you both like! Thanks for your suggestions

Joshua David is nice with your surname.

Unfortunately Charles and James both go really well Smile

Joshua Robert? Joshua Timothy? Joshua Paul? I think it suits something quite 'old school'.

Louisejames31 · 24/09/2014 22:05

Surnames Cunningham..
Joshua riley
Joshua David (father inlaw)
Joshua Thomas (brother)
Joshua Joseph
Joshua....???
Riley Joseph
Riley...???
