I am unashamedly starting another baby name thread Wink promise this is the last one (today anyway)

Another poster suggested Mabel to me, it's a name I LOVE but had discounted because a few years ago had a dog we called Mabel. However said dog only lived a couple of months and very few people were even aware what we had called the dog.

Is this a deal breaker? I'm starting to think not so much! Why oh why did I use a name I love on an animal knowing that we were ttc?

Apart from the above, do you like the name? Do you think it goes with big brother Eli?

I like Mabel. It's the kind of name a little girl could really make her own. I could see a sweet girly girl suiting it or a confident Tom-boy.

Bit extreme to say it's ugly :/

It feels similar to Martha and Mollie to me. I know 30 year olds with those names and they're both very sophisticated.

Wishfulmakeupping · 16/09/2014 16:42

I really really like it :)

Bohemond · 16/09/2014 16:42

My son is likely to be named after the next door neighbour's cat so I wouldn't worry!

RabbitSaysWoof · 16/09/2014 16:37

Its lovely. I really like it.

Theas18 · 16/09/2014 16:31

Mabel is fine.

Not Mabel Phoebe- for ever known as feeble maybe

Shinyshoes2 · 16/09/2014 16:17

I love it !!
I like Bessie too
Mabel sounds like a cute child with blonde curls and rosy cheeks

Bigoleheffer · 16/09/2014 16:16

I love it. If you love it then use it.

squoosh · 16/09/2014 16:09

I really do love Jude, glad I haven't been a total misery! Wink

fishfingerSarnies · 16/09/2014 16:02

I have two names on my list that were dogs of mine in childhood. Wouldn't put me off. I like Mabel we have Mabli on our list which is the welsh version I believe.

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 15:57

Wow it definitely provokes strong feelings! Adore it or loathe it Shock

I think Mabel is really, really ugly. It's not a nice sounding name and it's definitely better for a dog.

Love it and knew a very cute little Mabel about 10 years ago.

I have only had girl cats and boy humans but would certainly have re-used the cats name for a child, it was indicative that I loved the name plus the child would keep the name right into the future.

Clarabum · 16/09/2014 15:47

I LOVE MABEL, if I had another girl I would call her Mabel, it was on my last name list but ended up with a Martha. Another Marmite name.

MrsLettuce · 16/09/2014 15:41

The sadly deceased dog is no reason at all not to give your child a name you love, no.

Mabel is fab! A very capable sounding name with plenty of cute nickname possibility should you be so inclined.

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 15:39

Well actually I think you loved Jude!! Ah doesn't matter that's why I'm looking for opinions to hear the good and the bad!

Mabel, not Mable Blush

MirandaGoshawk · 16/09/2014 15:23

It doesn't matter that it used to be a dog's name.

I think Mabel is a lovely name for a little girl, and can see Mable as a super-hip teenager! People grow into their names and become that name - people who don't like the name now will just get used to it being your DD's name. (Not explaining it very well but in a nutshell - go for it!)

Legionofboom · 16/09/2014 15:18

I also really dislike Mabel. I don't like the sound or how it looks written down.

pregnantpause · 16/09/2014 15:16

My eldest dd shares her name with my first dog- doesn't matter at all .

squoosh · 16/09/2014 15:15

I can barely express how much I dislike it.

PrettyLittleMitty · 16/09/2014 15:14

Not a fan of Mabel, sorry. It's a little too old sounding for me.
