Need a boys name just in case. Re-visisted my shortlist and don't like any of them anymore.

I'm nearly 38 weeks.

dh and I eventually settled on a girls name despite having doubts about that too.We told a few people and didn't get a good response but there's been a famous one in the news recently and its been mentioned in the names that should be revived thread and I love it all over again.

2 private scans have said my baby is a girl. Radiologist said she'd never got it wrong. At my scan last week at a different hospital my doctor kept saying 'he', and the baby is measuring big (3.5kg) and he said that lady who did my scans in the other hospital wasn't qualified. So I'm having a wobble. Dh thinks I'm being silly and won't discuss it. But I've gone as far as putting gender neutral babygros in the hospital bag in 2 sizes.

Anyway, right at the start I thought we were having a boy so I didn't delete my list from here but I've just looked at it again and I don't like any of them anymore. Can you inspire me again?

Our tastes are, slightly retro, not in the top 50, possibly continental,not royal or religious, not with a J,C or W,and maybe nature inspired. Our chosen girls name fits in with that criteria.

I agree Rowan is a lovely name. The one I know is a girl though and because of this I definitely do not want a unisex name. Also where there is no letter w here it means locals would struggle with pronunciation too so it would become Rogan or Rouan.

village I like your list. Contemplated Miles before and have always had a soft spot for Ralph a lot of the others on your list are good but a bit Scottish sounding for me.

That's a shame Mrs L it's definitely growing on me.

Alexander is a name I've always loved, wish I could have used it myself.

Yes Tortoise it's an o sound in the surname. Think I might have a new frontrunner then. He'd have the same initials as dfil if we go with that combo too. That might help me get it past dh.

Incidentally I had another check up today but no scan. Doc was referring to baby as 'he' again.

I think it depends on whether you get the other vowel sounds the same -- so Alexander Parker might sound a bit silly because of the long "a" in both names, Alexander Foster would sound fine (and if your surname is what I think it is then that would be fine too). Alexander Felix is a good combination IMO.

near enough Fattycow, am in Cyprus. I am quite torn about religious names. I'm quite anti religion but at the same time I worry about dc being excluded from things at school so I went through a phase of thinking it must be a name with an orthodox saints day so thst was another reason Gregory was good legends, tradition and mythology are all good . Melissa our girls name is the only greek name without an orthodox saints day but we're going for Eve as a middle name as it's the nearest dh will let me get to my dgm's which he hates but Obviously Eve has a saints day.

Yes Mrs L, silent amusement definitely the way to go.

Incidentally if I was to reconsider Alexander does it sound that silly with our surname ending in er and does Felix work as a middle name for Alexander

OP - I don't think Vincent has been mentioned yet, has it? Good strong international name, I'd say. Non-religious too.

Have you seen Guardians of the Galaxy? Your suggestion of Grout for the dog made me think of the character Groot. Which is really funny as it means big and he is really big. Grin

(I think I find it amusing because the parents are intelligent, educated people yet - seemingly unthinkingly - combined those two names. I've never spoken English with them but I'd be really most surprised if either had a limited grasp of it. I'm pretty they'd 'get it' right away if I were unkind enough to comment.)

Floor and Tijl are indeed utterly normal names here, totally standard. I reserve the right to silent amusement at them as sibling names though.

Floor and Tijl are actually really normal names in the Netherlands and in Belgium.
Where are you located? Seeing as a lot of letters get altered in the pronunciation. Greece maybe? It would help suggesting names if we know where you are. Smile

Cassius is a fab name and along similar lines to Felix / Casper - I couldn't get past the meaning enough to use it myself but, well, maybe you can.

It's not Biblically one of the three wise men, though, just through legend/tradition -- not sure if that makes a difference?

Which makes me realise how ridiculous I'm being trying not to do religious names but still trying to fit in in a very orthodox country!

I didn't know that about Casper it made me think of the friendly ghost!

The cat connection is dodgy about Felix but I love it's meaning.

I quite like Austin but dh and I met at work and our hideous fd was an Austin it's also very similar to dh's name.

Casper isn't any more or less daring than Felix! Is one of the names of one of the three wise men though, IIRC. Although I'd hate to put you off it. Felix is excellent.

Right, Dominic is out because I don't like it's meaning.

from the suggestions so far I think Leon, Lucas and Felix are my favourites that's a great list my other but the ones I like seem a bit daring! (Aspen, Devon and Casper)

Am I being too fussy? Is that enough of a shortlist? And now I've got to think middle names.

You do have a good point about Dominic wiggle, yes he's not that famous and we can't see ourselves moving back, quite like Leo and Leon.

William, can't use 'w' names, there's no W so it's written with an ou or a g, it's also too royal and there are loads of them in the family already.

Need to look up the meanings of some of these. Thanks all.

I love Dominic, I know with your surname it's the same name as an actor, but he's not that famous, are you likely to be living where you live now for the foreseeable future?
