Karin/Karen and other 'K' names?

PrettyLittleMitty · 13/09/2014 11:21

We are due our second dd in 2 weeks and still haven't got a name.

We agree that we want to use a 'K/C' name as they sound nice with our rather unusual surname.

I like Karin (ka-rin) dh prefers Karen (ka-ren), dd1 has named the baby Carrie (which makes me think of the film of the same name!).

Opinions and suggestions needed, thank you.

If you go for anything that sounds close to Karen (Karin, Karyn, Karien, Caryn) it will always get misspelt as Karen. I love Kerensa suggested upthread, which is similar in sound to Karen. It means 'love' in Cornish.

Kylie, Cointreau

Karen is a 1950/60 name so is due a come back. I think it's a lovely name and difficult to shorten if that bothers you. Caroline is another one from the same era.

Kristina is also lovely.

Karina is probably more doable for the British than Karin. There are a lot of Karins where I am but never, ever a Karen.

Nolda · 13/09/2014 13:17

I know a Karin (family has a Swedish connections). And she has had a lot of problems with mispronunciation etc. She often tells people to pronounce it as in car insurance.

CurlyWurlyCake · 13/09/2014 13:13

I like Katrina

DharmaBumpkin · 13/09/2014 13:09

How about Ciara - Irish name, pronounced Keer-a

MrsLettuce · 13/09/2014 12:54

Caroline or Carolyn? Maybe?

PrettyLittleMitty · 13/09/2014 12:45

Hmmm, I do like Karyn. Perhaps that's where i'm going wrong with Karin, the spelling is confusing? Dh still likes Karen and can't see its dated? Lots of great suggestions thanks everyone.

I think Karen is fine, more classic than dated IMHO. I prefer it to Karin.
