Anyone have a Hugo?

We have a ridiculous difficult surname that it proving hard to pair with anything!

One name that we are thinking about is Hugo. But I have two concerns - does it sound really pretentious and what is it likely to be shortened to?

I like the name in theory, but am struggling with seeing myself shouting this out in the park (Even though I live in Naice area).

BTW - we're having a surprise, so this may be a moot point if it turns out to be a girl!

Thoughts?

ps. The Hugo I know is neither foppish nor posh. He is third generation Chinese Smile

One of the local Doctors is a Hugo and he fits the foppish stereotype.

I prefer Hugh, I know a little Hughie and I am distantly related to a toddler Huw.
