We are keen on Emily (also like Ellen but niece with very similar name so not going for it)

Would Evelyn be a better option due to the popularity of Emily?

Emily!!!!

Love it and don't know any baby ones.

Know tons of Evies though!

miffybun73 · 30/08/2014 23:11

Both are lovely.

I don't have a problem with using a popular name. They are usually popular for a reason.

My DD is Emily and, whilst I am fully aware that it is a very popular name, I love it :)

Angelto5 · 30/08/2014 22:26

Evangeline is a very pretty girls nameSmile

MehsMum · 30/08/2014 21:48

Way too many girls called Emily (there were 3 on one of my DC's classes).
Not enough Evelyns.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 30/08/2014 21:45

Games.
Sorry I must preview, I dare not pur auto correct on kindle it's very bossy.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 30/08/2014 21:44

Thats my problem wirh Evelyn.

Ti me it's pronounced Ev-Lyn and she was the dullest Great Aunt on tbe planet. Nan (her younger sister) alway said we wouldn't be long and we didn't have time to get the board cames compendium out.

Believe me we always stayed long enough!

heartshapedflux · 30/08/2014 20:09

My name is Anna, I love it and I am most definitely not boring!

I love the name Evelyn and would consider it if I had a daughter.

Emily is ok, but has bad connotations for me because of someone annoying I know with that name.

MrsMarigold · 29/08/2014 16:38

I like Evelyn and Jane and Anna. My faves.

ClaireFraser · 29/08/2014 16:35

I think Emily is lovely and very classic, not that I'm at all biased Wink, but Emilia is even lovelier, still a classic name and less popular.

Freshstart2014 · 29/08/2014 16:05

I have an Emily with nn of Emmie Smile

KERALA1 · 29/08/2014 16:00

There is a large middle ground between Emily and moonunit though. Loads of decent lovely names that are weirdly underused eg Zoe Mary Natasha and Tess way more about them then the top ten names everyone picking atm

ElephantsNeverForgive · 28/08/2014 16:29

Emily is not exciting, but there is a lot to be said for not having an 'exciting' name.

I have a very very ordinary name. I am also a bit quirky and eccentric. I got stick at school for existing. My fore name is the one thing only one person managed to make a joke about.

My unusual surname on the other hand.....

KERALA1 · 27/08/2014 18:20

Agree though in its favour jane is not currently widely used. Emily is up there in the dullness stakes though. Amelia and lily creep in too

ElephantsNeverForgive · 27/08/2014 09:31

No Jane is the most boring name in the world, closely followed by Anna

Bowlersarm · 26/08/2014 21:44

Emily

pimple · 26/08/2014 21:43

Emily much more popular where we live (SE) only one Eve in a school of 200+ kids and an Emily in each class!

KERALA1 · 26/08/2014 21:30

Emily is very dull but evelyn super popular. Sorry op

squoosh · 26/08/2014 21:28

Emily is the most boring name in the world therefore I vote wholeheartedly for Evelyn.

Squirm · 26/08/2014 19:19

Emily is far better.

Mrsgrumble · 26/08/2014 10:01

I think Emily is winning here Grin very interesting to see the amount of versions of Eve

Emily it's classic and pretty.

Evelyn was my incredibly boring great aunt.

It's my very very least favourite old lady name ever.

Gemerama82 · 26/08/2014 09:55

Both lovely names. For something a bit more unusual, how about Emmeline or Eveline (Ev-a-leen)?

KERALA1 · 25/08/2014 22:12

Millions of eves/Evie/Eva's one third of girls in dds class named a variant of eve. It's this generations sarah

Lewismummy2202 · 25/08/2014 19:56

Emily for me Smile

Montsti · 23/08/2014 19:58

Definitely Emily.
