I heard a mum calling the name Unity the other week, which I've never heard before. South-east London.

Eddison
Eva

florascotia · 24/08/2014 20:35

But Hudson contains the element 'son'. It means 'son of a man named Hudde'. Hudde was a short form of (usually) Hugh or (sometimes) Richard.

Why would anyone give it to a daughter?

Yorkshirelassreturns · 24/08/2014 20:17

phew I'm always relieved not to see my dc's names here means I didn't shout too much at the playground

Sootgremlin · 21/08/2014 11:50

Was it Banham zoo by any chance pebbles? That's where I heard Bobby!

Sootgremlin · 21/08/2014 11:46

I heard a Bobby the other day, which I thought was sweet on a little boy and fairly unusual to my ear. I'm always surprised I don't hear of more Roberts as it is fairly classic.

MaryWestmacott · 21/08/2014 11:40

Emily
Livy (I assume she's an Olivia)

florascotia · 21/08/2014 11:30

Dolores is one of those Spanish names that started off as an attribute for the Virgin Mary.
It's the short version of 'Maria de los Dolores' - Mary of the Sorrows.
Sometimes girls are named simply 'Maria Dolores'.

The short form of Dolores is Lola or Lolita.

YellowStripe · 21/08/2014 11:29

Smooth I LOVE Delores and wanted it for DD1 but DH wouldn't have it as it means crying, sad woman or something.

MrsWinnibago · 21/08/2014 11:18

Just lol at Iago! Put on your coat!

I did hear while in Oz "Rainbow! Misty! Catch the fuck up will you!?" Grin

aubreye · 21/08/2014 11:12

Some kids at my DCs school;

Fenella
Sigrid- Siri for short
Messiah- umm
Elektra, Harley and Clementine- sisters
Yaseen- he's Muslim and this is a traditional name apparently
Colt and Zelda- brother and sister

These kids all go to a prestigious private school so no wonder the outcome. Really, Messiah?

My kids have a few unusual names though;

-Isaac
-Delilah
-Ephraim
-Rosalie
