How would you pronounce this name ???

Hi
I know myself how I would be pronouncing it if I was to choose this name but was just wondering how others would pronounce it,
Ok so it would be used if I was to have a boy:
it is Ephan.

spelling ethan exactly how is pronounced why ? why not, and theres nothing wrong with indea by the way.
Funny how people get so horribly offended by the way "someone" eles name is spelt or pronounced "get a grip" people Grin

In The Honourable Woman currently on BBC there is a male character called Ephra so I pronounced it like than with an n at the end. eff ran.

I use the capital E sound for Ethan but the lower case ehh sound for this although my pronunciation for Ethan is entirely different and wouldn't be confused anyway.

Evan or Eidan are nice too, if you want something similar to Ethan but a bit different.

Just read the op, thought Efan. Moved to another thread and then had the horrid thought it was Ethan. I usually like alternative spellings, but not keen on this.

? You're spelling Ethan exactly as it is pronounced ? Why?

Also, Kate/Cait - Cait is the Gaelic variant. In Irish/ Gaelic it is pronounced nothing like Kate.

Kate and Cait are both legitimate spellings Cait short for Caitlin.

Ephan is just wrong! so is Indea

But the name is actually Ethan- why would you call your child a mispronounciation?

Thats exactly how people would pronounce ethan were I live too, the only thing different about ephan is its splet exactly how it would be pronounced.
its just a variation of the name example kate/cait, indea/india

It's how people in our neck of the woods pronounce Ethan.

My ds wrote a card to his friend when he was little -"Happy Birfday Efan"

oh well there you go I have seen it as a boys name but theres the evidence above that it can be used as a girls name, so may change it over to my girl list, but like I said it wasn't made up, just because something looks a bit different from the "norm" it doesn't have to made up, people just need to be open minded could always go for some typical like John it fits in with this "normal" society we live in.

Looks totally made-up to me, but if I had to hazard a guess. I'd go with Eh-fan.

Not good - if I heard it I would assume you couldn't pronounce "th". Ethan is so much nicer.

I think it's one thing to use a name that's unusal or difficult in another country/language if it's from your culture/country/whatever (ie a lot of the welsh/irish/french names used in England) but it's another to use one of those if it's not. ie Aoife - lovely Irish name when said by someone Irish, but ends up being a mangled version of Eva by non Irish people. Fine if you or the Dad are Irish, pointless if you are both English. IMO.

I haven't looked at the other replies yet - but I would probably mumble 'Efan/evan' making it sound like 'Efvan'.

Sounds like a mispronunciation/misspelling of Ethan.

when I was trying to find names I liked for (then unborn and gender unknown) DC, I had a spreadsheet!
I didn't keep unusual spellings in, but I did keep names that had interesting meanings. In the end I settled for something traditional, versatile and reasonably timeless with a number of varied associations. Also turned out to be a name that's been in both mine and DH's families over a number of generations.

Eefan, it would make me think you were mispronouncing/misspelling Ethan.
It does remind me a bit of another name though, Ephraim, which has two pronounciations, Eefrum and Ef-rum.

It sounds like an east end/Essex pronunciation of Ethan. Not good.
