How would you pronounce this name ???

Hi
I know myself how I would be pronouncing it if I was to choose this name but was just wondering how others would pronounce it,
Ok so it would be used if I was to have a boy:
it is Ephan.

if you worked where I do, I come across some strange and wonderful names daily, think you would have a breakdown by the end of the week

i would pronounce it birthde, but would spell it birthday as thats how I was taught to spell it Grin Grin your all probably trying to guess where about iam from with mt accent.
oh you are so easy to wind up, Wink yeah all soooo serious

iam taking all all these names with a pinch of salt as I do with those found in books too just thought I would get other people's views, just didn't realise" how offened" people are over other peoples names, as to me a name is just a name doesnt make a person who they are, as I wouldn't judge anyone by their name and most importantly how irs spelt its totally irrelevant to me.

The Elena's I know are E-len-a. I think it depends whether you take it from the Spanish or the Greek though.

OP- Bear in mind that the fact that you would pronounce the names the same doesn't mean everyone else will, or that your child will as a teen/adult.

If you go with Ethan, the majority of people will say E-than. If you go with Ephan, the majority of people will say ee-fan. You need to think about how you want the name to sound more generally, not just how your accent will make it sound.

I prefer Ethan TBH.

No. Shaun is an anglicisation of the Irish name. They are pronounced the same.

I would pronounce it like Ethan but with an F sound.

And if I heard someone call it out loud I would assume it was Ethan said with a crap accent.

Pronouncing Bible names such as Ephah can be a challenge it is pronounced as Ee-fan

Bring on a name site doesn't necessarily make a name sensible or 'real'.

I bought a name book when I was expecting DS1 that had Spunky and Chubby listed in the boy's name section. I have serious trouble believing that any parent would put either of those on their baby's birth certificate.

I'd pronounce it Eh- Lain-ah. But I'm more likely to hear people's names as opposed to seeing them written down so if you told me your dd was called Eleanor or Helena, it could just as easily be spelled Elena and I'd be none the wiser.

yes I like the name ethan, I would be happy to use eithee ethan, ephan or efan as I would pronounce all three the same way, they have all come up as boy nanes when ive searched so I haven't intended on making up a name myself from an original name, just interested in variations of different names.

As for Ethan on some baby name site it was actually hebrew in origin, not that the origin of matters if I like a name regardless of origin I would use it.

once again before commenting please check the name sites out as indea is on there.

Cait is pronounced Cat and Efan, in Welsh, would be pronounced Evan.

People using non English names and mispronouncing them really annoys me. It is quite disrespectful I think, smacks of English imperialism.

Just checked and there were 23 Efans in 2012 and 5 Arrys. Efan is a welsh name as previously mentioned though.

Just trying to follow the logic here:

You like the name Ethan but you pronounce it Efan.
You want to spell it as it's pronounced.

So shouldn't you spell it Efan rather than Ephan?

Apart frm the fact that it's spelled India because it's the name of the country.
Are you planning on spelling Birthday "Birfday"? Because that's how it's pronounced round here.

well to be honest if thats how its pronounced why not, or are we all speaking the queens English when we say things or people's names because I know where iam from we dont

It would be like calling a child Arry instead of Harry or Enry instead of Henry.

Ee-fan. But I'd assume they were incapable of pronouncing 'th' so mispronouncing Ethan.
