DH really likes it, I'm not sure. We already have Frances and like Miriam, Dominic, Joseph and maybe Beatrice (expecting twins, don't know the sex).

mrsbungle you yourself are as dull as ditchwater and spiteful too or you wouldnt be using such hackneyed cliches and then even getting them wrong.

I think it would be very refreshing on a little girl today and stand out amongst all the frilly, girly names.

It sounds good with Frances but does make me think of Roman Catholic saints - Francis of Assisi and Clare of Assisi, Clare was one of his first followers. I'm sure most people won't think of that though and it's not a bad association to have at all.

I have quite a few friends of similar age called Claire/Clair/Clare & I think it's a beautiful name & is due for a revival.

And in the north it will be pronounced as Clure. Another reason to avoid.

er how is it 'chavvy' exactly?
when I was at uni there were six Clares doing English!! each one had an identifying prefix = I am not telling you what mine was Grin

I like Claire (and spelt that way too). I think it's pretty, simple and she won't be one of loads with that name in her class.

It's awful, dull, I was one of 6 in my class!

I love it- and considered it for my own dd (14 years ago) - I think it is classic and doesn't go out of fashion.

I really can't stress enough my dislike for the name Claire. Don't like Clara either. It's just so dull. I love all your other names though and totally love Frances.

I said on a thread recently I thought Claire would be due a revival soon as it is classic, simple and pretty. It was a victim of its own popularity. It will be unusual and stand out if you use it now, it sounds very fresh and different for a little girl now I think. Lovely meaning too.

My sister is called Claire & i love the name.
I think its a pretty name & you don't hear many little Claires anymore.
Its so much prettier than many popular names at the moment.

Sorry but Clare is a but full. However, there are kits of lovely 70s names that a due a revival. Joanna, Helen/a, Lisa, Rachel
