Yes! We inadvertently named both DS1and DD1 names that it turns out a lot of idiots people misread as those of the opposite sex. DS1 is Gabriel and has also had years of birthday cards from his great-aunt addressed to Gabrielle
I still love their names though and wouldn't change them for anything.

Ds is called Conrad and we often get " connor" and i LOATHE the name Connor so it REALLY annoys me.

Yes, my dd is Bethany, she was 'Bethany nn Bethan' at her doctor's surgery for a while (and all the letters were addressed to Bethan - no idea where they got that from), a good friend also referred to her as Bethan for a while, FIL once referred to her as Beverley (REALLY?), she has also been called Bryony. I had no idea it was such a problematic name
My work colleagues also always call her Beth, which sort of irritates me - even though I LOVE the nn Beth, and it was part of the reason we chose the name- I'm conscious she will probably go by Beth when she's older so for now we are making use of her full name - and I have always introduced her as Bethany. It just irritates me slightly that people shorten names themselves!

My DS is called Harley, but people call him Harvey.

My DD is Lydia. Told several people her name, and they've assumed it's Olivia. Not adults so much, but often kids will get it wrong.

No idea why, it could be my Belfast accent, or just the fact that there's 10 Olivia's to every 1 Lydia round here.

nelly my SIL does exactly the same with my DS's name! Replaces the y with ie to make it the female version. I think she must do it on purpose for some reason as its a well known name!

Yup. Ds1 has a name where the masculine version is spelt with a y and the feminine version is ie. People always get it wrong. Even if I've spelt it out first like in a text message. Really pissed me off, not sure if people are lazy or thick!

Yes!! DD Sophia had better get used to being called Sophie. Even my Mum calls her Sophie

Some of my relatives and my NDN insist on calling my DD Joanne when her name is Joanna. Drives me potty. She is almost universally known as Jo now. She is an adult now so is quite capable of correcting people.

DH has a name similar to your Josh example (but not Josh), he's just the nn, not the full name, and is constantly asked "is that (e.g) Joshua?" When we moved in together and I went to register us for council tax, I explained to the woman, watched her write Josh on the form, and a few days later received the letter addressed to Mr Joshua X.

Conversely, DS has a name where the nickname on its own is very popular, not so much the full name- think Alfred instead of Alfie. Obviously, when registering him for anything 'official,' we use his full name, but the library, health visitors, and even GP surgery have all later updated their own records to call him Alfie! Grrrr!

DD is Cassie - constantly being called Casey

My Rory is Rooree to his Irish and Scottish relatives, Rory to his English ones. That's fine, he's happy with both. Róisín is Rosheen to her Northern Irish relatives, Roe-sheen to her Irish ones and bloody RuhSHEEN to many English people. Fgs.

DH's American friends and family insist my Graham is Gram. Gram? That is what I call my grandmother. How do you get one syllable out of 'aha'? Second vowel after a consonant makes the first vowel long. Phonics, anyone? Grey-am or Grey-um. Now I have them call him Grey because I can't stand them calling my little boy what I call my Gram.

Yes, dd2 is called Bronwen and everyone, including my sister, call her BronWIN. It's got to the point where I feel that I'm being unreasonable to correct them so I call her Bronny instead.

Yes, dd1 has an 'ann' sound in both her full name and nn but many people say 'arn', stopped correcting a while ago, those that matter know her name!

Not pronunciation but spelling - there are 3 ways to spell DD's name and even people I talk with often by text / email (so they see it written all the time) spell it wrong. It doesn't bother me, people have been spelling my name wrong my whole life.

Yes, one of my colleagues does it every single time. I wouldn't mind so much but we have worked together for 7 years and our DCs are in the same class at school FFS. It really, really pisses me off, not least because it's one of the top 5 names.

Yes dd is katya. we get kat-ee-ah all the time when it's just two syllables: kat-ya. It's a five letter name for goodness sake!
