Ginny?

So weird that all the names I seem to like a short/nick name types! I posted Elvie a couple of days back! I did post Alba a while ago but hubby has gone off it :(

So, opinions on Ginny.....the Harry Potter link doesn't put me off at all.

Not keen at all. My Australian friend calls her lady bits her giney which is too similar, IMO. Virginia is too close to virgin and vagina for me too.

Yeah, I don't like Ginnifer at all. Don't really like any of the longer versions either although I do like Genevieve just not enough for an actual name.

Ginnifer is a ridiculous name. Sounds like a Jennifer said in a Kiwi accent (not that a Kiwi accent is ridiculous!)

Would be tempted to think about Ginnifer, Ginnie, Imogen, Eugenie.

Where I live the term "Ginny Ann" is used for people being a bit scared about things. Sort of like the term "pansy".

I'd avoid it.

I'm not posh! Does Ginny sound posh? Would it be out of place in a middle class (I guess that is the category I'd fall into, I think....I don't like he whole class thing tbh) family?

I do not like the names which sound like nicknames or shorten names. I would choose Genevieve for Ginny

squoosh I have a friend called Virginia, who admits it wasn't an easy name to have as a teenager, but she loves her name now, and I think it's lovely too.

But, why not have just the shorter name if that is what you like? Quite posh friends of ours just have Tom. Not Thomas. His given name is Tom.

Apparently in HP Ginny is supposed to be short for Ginevra, which I kind of like.

I LOVE it too. I think I must be fussy! I just like Ginny, not keen on Jinny, not keen on Ginnifer (as in Goodwin) either. Imogen is lovely but a very close friend of mine has an Imogen (goes by Immy)

I don't mind if some pets have the name, hell I know so many dogs called Poppy and a fair few kids too, same with Lucy or Ruby! All nice names for humans and pets!

I appreciate your opinions :)

I LOVE the name Ginny!

I read a book about the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes who had an amazing wife called Ginny who spoke fluent Arabic, was a trained mechanic and won awards for exploring and I thought it would be a great namesake for a girl.

My guinea pig is called Ginny.

I also think it sounds a bit Famous Five.

And Elvie? I bet you'd get at least one person mistakenly writing Elvis Grin

Jennifer also can be shortened to Jinny.

(My deep and abiding love, the Jinny at Finmory books).
