Job/Jobby/Joaby all = shit where I come from. As others have pointed out, Job in the Bible has a terrible time. And it will always be pronounced "job".

They will be pronounced the same if a verbal or written pronouncation isn't given. Using a captial letter does not automatically turn a word into two different pronouncations.

Adding the 'e' would make it a much better and lower the risk of mispronouncation. IMO. As soon as the 'e' is on I recognised the name and pronouncation easily.

I'm not sure if you are acting thick Julia or being deliberately obtuse, but the traditional thing to do when looking for potential issues with names, is to look at what your average 9 year old (or 19 year old) little shit bully will do with it. That includes potential problems of mispronounciation, unfortunate spellings, rhymes etc.

We know how it's pronounced. We also know how it is written on a page. Which version do you think the dickhead making the blowjob and poo jokes is going to run with dear?

But in Scotland it can be pronounced 'joaby' (jobbie) - not such a problem in London though

It's not job. It's Job, pronounced jobe. The two words are pronounced differently. Therefore, hand jobe means nothing. The same is true for poo. Job might be juvenile slang for poo, but Job sounds nothing like it.

I'm originally from S.Yorks and I grew up hearing Job not Jobby. Then, again, Yorkshire is known for shortening of words and missing them out

Either way; some people will still connect Job with Jobby.

Even now; after I know how the name is pronounced, at a glance/top of my head my brain says job as in work. It takes awhile to remember the correction. For me anyway.

I was born and grew up in London and we used the word job for a poo. Still like the name though but might add an 'e'.

I came on here assuming that it was pronounced like "Job Centre" and thought it was awful.

Personally I'm not all that keen on it, I am Scottish and up here there would definitely be a "jobby" (poo) reference.

Really though, the majority of first encounters with people wont be with his name written down, so they will
get the pronounciation when you introduce him/he introduces himself. If it's someone reading it off a page for the first time it wont be hard to correct them and will
probably occur leas often than you think.

In my experience having taught lots of London teenagers, people in London are very open minded about names!

Because the word job and the name Job are pronounced very differently and they have 2 entirely different meanings.
