What do you think? I am rather liking it, fits the Biblical trend but not popular yet, easy to spell, short.

Only problem is will people pronounce it Job as in 'Job interview' or how it should be said Jobe? I noticed more people spelled it Jobe recently but I hate the e, it looks wrong.

Indeed he will, just like the rest of us have to get over our names, whether they be Job or James, if we don't like it we can change it but we have to live with the reality that we can't choose our own names.

Since it isn't pronounced job highly unlikely to happen and honestly his classmates round here will have their own wide variety of names, he isn't likely to be in a classroom of Daniel's and James' if he even goes to school.

If it does, I can say "how do you want to handle this? you can go and face up to them, tell them to get over it, you can start going by Joe, you could tell the teacher, you could use your middle name"

I could tell him that I called him Job because I knew life was suffering and this was his first trial, keep the faith and live up to your name

yes when he comes home crying from school because everytime the teacher has said 'i need someone to do a job for me', the other kids have laughed , you can say to him 'i knew your name was silly but i am pig headed and thought it would be better for me to indulge my whims than for you to have a name that you can actually live with. isn't that nice darling?'

James is nice but no good story and I loathe Jamie
Paul is a misogynist,
Peter has bad personal associations
Simon I hate
Daniel is great with a good story but hate Danny
Adam is not a good role model and Benjamin has a rather pointless meaning 'son of the right hand' and isn't a strong character
and I don't really feel strongly about a Biblical name, I just like short, not too popular, my second choice would probably be Leo for the meaning but it is super popular. Job however is now way out in front.

It's London people will get over it, there are lots of less common names here. If he moves away he can be Joe, if he turns 18 and hates his name he can get a deed poll and call himself Oliver or James or he can go by his middle name. Thousands of kids hate their super popular names and at least I'll have a good meaningful story to tell him as to why I chose it.

I like it and know that it's pronounced jobe only because I went to Sunday school. I would however spell it with the e on the end to avoid confusion.

Agree that Jonah isn't a great name because of it's unlucky associations.

The biblical name that really gets me, though, is Cain. I just don't get why a parent would want to name a baby after the first murderer. But it's still a more popular name than Job. (This isn't a good thing, IMO)

Have to disagree with posters who say the name Job is not pronounced like slang for shit. In West of Scotland "jobby" is the, well, posh pronunciation. Normal pronunciation for both shit and occupation is joab. Sort of Joe then a b sound.

Pretty miserable story though and a name that definitely attracted raised eyebrows and sniggers. Jonah also on the way up despite common associations of misery and Ned which has other connotations In parts of the UK.

Yes, but Noah, AFAIK, has no other meaning in English. It's not also used as a word (and yes, I know they're pronounced differently, but job and Job look identical when written).

Noah is just known as a name.

If you were talking about the stratospheric rise of Ham (or other biblical name where the written version is identical to a commonly used English word) as a name then you might have a decent argument about Job being ahead of the curve.

other people will make comments about him being unlucky.

this is a name where you really have to put aside your feelings about it being a nice name and think about the impact it will have on your child's life.

I'm not put off. Infact defending job on this thread has turned a vague idea into a sure thing. I really like it now.

I expected some negative opinions but slightly amazed at the strength of feeling of the anti Job posters and also feel a bit sorry for Jacksoff can't be nice to hear so much negativity about your child's name. Still it is a simple classic name maybe ahead of the trend look at the stratospheric rise of Noah perhaps in 2030 there'll be a Job in every class
