If you had a Samuel (goes by Sam/Sammy), would you consider the name Delilah for a girl? We aren't religious one tiny bit, and I am not sure the average person would make a connection, and even though the biblical story is about Samson and Delilah, I'm still worried people might be all WTF at us.

In any case, I'd also love other girl name suggestions. I like 3+ syllable names, with nickname options. Middle names are Janine Eleanor.

Baby is due in 6 weeks! I don't even know if it is a girl, but I've got my boy name chosen already. I'm just having trouble with a girl name.

I made the link.... I wouldn't do it.

I made the biblical and Tom Jones links immediately and don't particularly like the name anyway - sorry!

Alis, I had forgotten all about that "Hey there Delilah" song! Oh it was terrible. Sad

OP, how about Elizabeth? Plenty of nn options there. Or maybe Alexandra?

It's a lovely name, go for it. There will always be some reference you've missed or a new one that appears shortly after you've found your "safe" name. My nephew was named Austin shortly before the release of the first Austin Powers film.

I am expecting a little boy and would love to call him a name which I know some people will make a very negative link with. I think I will go for it anyway if it suits him when he's born =)

I would have made the biblical link straight away. Then there's the Dingles from Emmerdale. Then there's the song - it might be old but it remains well known. I really wouldn't do it.

(Older) relatives have been known to sing "why, why, why Delilah?" at DD who isn't even called Delilah! (Lila)

Be prepared for lots of singing from strangers if you choose this name. Even though Tom Jones isn't exactly in his prime any more, it's a firm karaoke favourite.

I personally wouldn't choose Delilah when you have so many others to choose from.

I think Delilah has negative connotations and sounds a bit vulgar. Sorry.

I share my name with a recently famous singer, and I can't tell you how much it winds me up to have people sing lyrics at me, it happens all the time, even happens now when I go to get a coffee since they insist upon writing down my name!! It makes my skin crawl, prior to singer I loved my name because I had never met anyone else called the same!!
Delilah is a beautiful name, but be under no illusions, remarks will be made!! X
