Betty or Audrey

Hello ladies, advice please. Our surname is Grove and four year old daughter is named Penny. Both my other half and I love old retro names, something not too popular but a bit classic (think 1950's pin up/movie stars) We had Betty as our no.1 choice of a name and even been referring to baby as Betty, but now have been thinking of Audrey (mostly from watching the tv series 24) and have confused ourselves. Lol.

Just wondering which of the two you ladies like best...

Betty Marie Grove
or
Audrey Marie Grove

(its a family tradition to have Marie as a middle name!)

I love the name Penny. DH vetoed it for our DD.
I much prefer Betty to Audrey.

Both are very Coronation Street.

I'd go for Betty (as that's the character no longer in the show, unless of course that's the association you want).

I have an Audrey so I'm biased. Betty is a bit too lightweight for me.

Thanks ladies and thanks Happypenguin2014... sounds like we have similar tastes! hehe! Penny (my daughter) really suits her name, she's a lot of fun, very friendly and a bit old fashioned at times (in a cool way). I get a lot of lovely compliments on her name. So picking a name with as much character as that has been tricky! x

I think i'll say to my other half that people tend to find Betty as fun, but Audrey as sophisticated and see which "character" he would prefer :) x

Audrey is gorgeous & sophisticated.

Betty does not have that same 'feel' to me. Or maybe it's just that I don't like it Grin

Just want to say I love the name penny! And Betty. I also adore 1950s and never without my swing dresses lol x

Thanks ladies! So confusing. Generally my family and friends all prefer Betty and she has already been called this several times, but on here most prefer Audrey lol. I'm trying to picture what i'll be shouting in a park or when I tell her off haha! x

Same here, Betty is fun but Audrey has sophistication (Audrey Hepburn etc.) as well as the 'retro' feel that you like.

I do like Betty but only as a nickname, so I'd say Audrey.

I should add I like Betty (and she will be shortened to "Bee" most probably. We did consider Elizabeth and using Betty as a nickname but feared some people would chose alternative nicknames from Elizabeth so we are cutting out the formality really. To me it makes me think of Bettie Page, Betty White and fun influential stars like that.

I think of Audrey as a classic and sophisticated name. Someone pretty and gentle, but still quirky.
